Hello, HACC Hawks!
Welcome to the student newsletter. HACC is dedicated to providing news that matters most to you in an easy-to-read format. We will continue to share relevant information and keep you “in the know” as we serve and support you.
This newsletter is shared with all current HACC students.
Thank you!
Dear Student,
The deadline to verify your enrollment is approaching. To ensure you continue receiving your Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) and/or kicker payments, verify your enrollment as soon as possible.
If you previously opted-in to text message verification, you should receive a text message from Veterans Affairs at the end of the month requesting that you verify enrollment.
If you continued to attend your courses or training over the past month, reply “Yes” to verify enrollment.
If you reply “No,” your file will be flagged for review.
NOTE: If your schedule or courses have changed, please contact us; so we can resolve any issues and avoid delayed payments.
If you are enrolled in email verification, you should receive an email from Veterans Affairs at the end of the month requesting that you verify enrollment. Follow the links in the email to notify Veterans Affairs of your enrollment status.
If you fail to submit enrollment verification for two consecutive months, your MHA/kicker payments will be stopped until you verify your enrollment.
If you need to verify your enrollment over the phone, opt-in to text verification, or enroll in email verification, you may call the Education Call Center (ECC) at 1-888-GIBILL-1 (1-888-442-4551) domestically or 001-918-781-5678 overseas.
For more information on enrollment verification, including an infographic with step-by-step instructions and FAQs, explore the Enrollment Verification website. All of this information will also be shared with affected students directly. To find your SCO, go to the GI BILL Comparison Tool and search for your school.
Thank you for your hard work and continued support of our GI Bill beneficiaries throughout this new process.
Respectfully,
Education Service

Experiential Learning allows you to do this in many ways. Career Services is here to help YOU Explore, Discover and Connect to a variety of experiences that allow YOU to choose a career path that suits YOUR skills and talents best!
Since a staggering 95 percent of employers said that candidate experience is a factor in hiring decisions, according to an annual survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), now is the time for you to consider your approach! Nearly half surveyed employers wanted new grad experience to come from internships or co-op programs. If you have completed internship, you will clearly have an edge over other candidates who haven’t. “Not only does participation in an internship make the student a more attractive candidate,” says NACE Executive Director, Marilyn Macke, “but it can also be an avenue to a job.”
So, how do you get started?
First, before you embark on an internship search you should consider doing an Informational Interview. This allows you to be in the driver’s seat as the interviewer. Now you will ask the questions for which you want answers about a particular career field or industry!
Second, once you consider doing an Informational Interview you should also really decide upon doing a Job Shadowing experience. This may or may not be done at the same time as the Informational Interview. Job Shadowing allows you to observe and experience a ‘day in the life of’ a career professional in the field or industry of your interest.
Third, now that you have spoken to a knowledgeable career professional and hopefully, also observed what s/he actually does in the workplace environment you may begin the Internship Search Process by consulting The HACC Student’s Guide to Internship Planning
Fourth, schedule an individual appointment to discuss informational interviews, job shadowing, internships or any other type of experiential learning opportunity here at HACC by calling 717-780-2433 or emailing careerservices@hacc.edu. Don’t forget, check out HACC’s Career Services webpages and the many resources we have available for you about internships and experiential learning here: https://www.hacc.edu/Students/CareerServices/internships-and-experiential-learning-opportunities.cfm.
We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Step 1) Write a Strong Resume that highlights YOUR best skills and accomplishments. After writing a draft make an appointment with Career Services to have it reviewed.
Step 2) Prior to the job search, make sure your online presence is professional. Google yourself! According to a survey conducted by CareerBuilder in 2017, 70 percent of employers look up applicants online and use social media while screening candidates.
Step 3) Start the Job search process. Register and upload your resume to College Central Network (CCN): https://www.collegecentral.com/hacc/ Employers who express interest in HACC students and alumni are referred to CCN to post positions.
Step 4) Network and Learn how to create a LinkedIn account.
It’s estimated that about 80 percent of jobs are found through networking.
Step 5) Prepare for the Interview - Study Yourself, Research the Employer and Practice, Practice, Practice! Schedule a mock interview with Career Services: It is all about preparation!
Step 6) Stay positive! Remember the job search is a process, it will take time and dedication.
