HACC Foundation donors provided funding to enhance campus safety through the ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) Active Shooter Response Training Program. HACC’s Public Safety and Security Department recently undertook this transformative initiative to enhance campus safety and empower students and employees in preparing for an active shooter scenario. The program has been a groundbreaking addition to the College’s commitment to safety.
Through interactive sessions, students learned strategies for effectively reacting to high-stress situations, including how to secure themselves, assess their surroundings and respond appropriately. By reducing uncertainty and building confidence, the program provided the necessary tools to take swift and effective action. HACC’s employees also participated in the certification. The training sessions fostered open discussions and encouraged a shared commitment to vigilance and preparedness in maintaining campus safety.
Many participants shared that they experienced reduced anxiety about safety, increased confidence in responding to emergencies and greater responsibility toward collective safety for the College. The ALICE training has laid the framework for ongoing safety initiatives and showed that with the right support, education and resources, we can build a College community that is resilient and prepared. This was all made possible through the generosity of HACC Foundation donors.
