HACC Spring and Summer Announcement

HACC announces plans for summer 2021 semester

Thank you for your continued support of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, as we help our students navigate the dynamics of the COVID-19 global pandemic.

On Dec. 16, 2020, we shared with our students and employees that the College campuses will remain closed until at least Aug. 12, 2021, and classes and services will be provided online. The exception will be the hands-on/experiential components of approved courses.

This decision was made after review of federal and state guidelines and the collegewide COVID-19 Task Force recommendations.

Please visit hacc.edu/Coronavirus for more details.

Thank you and stay safe!

HACC Retiree Leaves Gift to HACC

A HACC retiree, Mrs. Doris Allamong, passed away in June 2020 and left HACC in her will. Mrs. Allamong’s daughter recently informed the HACC Foundation of her mother’s generosity. Mrs. Allamong’s gift will provide emergency assistance funding to HACC students.

Per Mrs. Allamong’s obituary, “she was an early employee of Harrisburg Area Community College and worked there for 23 years, retiring as business office manager in 1988. Dedicated to the college's mission and devoted to its students, she took great pride in the achievements of both.”

Mrs. Allamong passed away at the age of 96. We are grateful for her service to, commitment to and love for HACC.

If you are interested in leaving a legacy like Mrs. Allamong, please visit hacc.edu/plannedgiving.

New Cookbook Now Available

HACC’s Executive Chef Publishes Cookbook

As the old saying goes, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” Chef Thomas J. Long, CEC, AAC, executive chef at HACC, has made lemonade and so much more.

While the Chef’s Apprentice restaurant on HACC’s Harrisburg Campus remains closed due to the global pandemic, Chef Tom has been hosting cooking shows for students on Zoom. Documenting recipes from the show became part of the process, and one viewer suggested the creation of a cookbook.

The Chef’s Apprentice Cookbook – available for purchase just in time for the holidays – features over 80 recipes, including appetizers, soups, entrees, salads, side dishes and desserts. Some of Chef Tom’s prize-winning recipes from over the years are also included, such as his often requested crab cake recipe.

Please visit the HACC Bookstore website to purchase yours!

Five dollars from the sale of each cookbook will be donated to the HACC Foundation’s Benjamin Olewine III Center for the Study of Culinary Arts and Food Service Management Fund for Excellence. This fund for excellence allows HACC to invest in innovative tools and technology to keep up with the constantly expanding culinary industry.
