Meet Jessica: Hard-Working Mother

Jessica, a student in HACC’s Radiologic Technology Program, works hard inside and outside of the classroom. She is a mother to two young girls and sees her experiences as a college student having a positive impact on her children. Jessica said, “I have noticed they are excited and eager to learn with their schooling because they see their mommy excited and eager to learn.”

Create last will and testament document graphic

August is National Make-A-Will Month

Are you ready? Are you prepared? According to a study by Caring.com, 2/3 of adults do not have a Last Will and Testament. Perhaps they believe they have nothing worthwhile to leave. Or, perhaps they don’t want to think about their own death. Whatever the reason, this is the month to put all of that aside.

A legal Will allows you to make your decisions and choices known. You can specify who should receive an item or even donate to a favorite cause. Without a Will, the state may become involved, which increases the time it will take to settle your affairs and provide your family peace of mind.

Creating a Will does not have to be a difficult task or even involve a lawyer. There are several online companies that will walk you through creating the document, just as online tax applications walk you through completing your annual taxes.

You should not delay creating your Will because of an upcoming life event. Wills can be altered whenever you choose and should be reviewed every few years to make sure they still accurately reflect your wishes and circumstances.

‘Photographs from Cuba’ Exhibition Features Everyday Life

Sept. 1-30, 2022, in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery

“Photographs from Cuba” by internationally known artist Jim Hartsen will be displayed in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, from Sept. 1-30, 2022.

For over 12 years, Hartsen has been going back to his roots of street photography, focusing on Cuba and Peru to capture images of simple yet friendly people. Most of his work is exhibited and sold through fine art galleries.

Hartsen, who graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in photographic illustration in 1968, will discuss his work Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. in Whitaker Hall, Room 214. A reception will immediately follow at the gallery. The reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public.

For more information about the exhibit at HACC, please contact Shawn Williams at 717-780-2478 or smwillia@hacc.edu.

Frank Baseman Retrospective Coming to HACC

“Rebus Quotes and Other Typographic Explorations: Design Work by Frank Baseman” is an exhibition of select work from Frank Baseman’s three-decades-plus career as a professional graphic designer. Baseman’s work will be on display in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery Oct. 10-Nov. 8, 2022.

The exhibition will include recent work combining two of Baseman’s favorite long-term interests: rebuses – words and images coming together to make a visual puzzle (think “I Heart NY” and “America Runs on Dunkin”) – and letterpress printing.

The public is invited to a free lecture on Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. on HACC’s Harrisburg Campus (Whitaker Hall, Room 214).
