New Student Orientation sessions are up and running for fall 2020. During these sessions, we will assist you with:
● Making a smooth transition to college
● Engaging with available HACC resources
● Finding your why, or the reason you chose to attend college
● Discovering similarities and differences among your fellow HACC students
Due to the global pandemic, all orientation sessions are being held remotely via Zoom. After you register for orientation, you will receive a Zoom link via email the day before your session date. If you need disability-related accommodations, please contact orientation@hacc.edu five days before your scheduled date.
As a HACC student, you have access to Orientation Homebase, a comprehensive document that will help you confidently access key HACC services and personnel. You can access this document at any time by logging in to your myHACC account and selecting “New Student Orientation Homebase” under the Student Success > New Student Orientation tabs.
Dorian Samardzic recently attended New Student Orientation and said:
“The New Student Orientation was highly beneficial to me as it provided informative details regarding the many different clubs/groups I could attend and be an avid part of during this time of hardship and it showcased how many individuals persevered/overcame obstacles while attending HACC. This alluded to the idea that anyone, regardless of their background and personal experiences, can evolve to become a successful individual as a result of attending HACC!”
The New Student Orientation team is looking forward to meeting you at an upcoming session. We are #HACCproud that you chose HACC to advance your education!
We are very proud to congratulate HACC graduate Kyle Rossi on his acceptance into the Dramaturgy Intensive Program with the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, led by Mark Bly and featuring other theatre luminaries such as Moisés Kaufman.
Kyle says he is grateful that he is “getting to do such an awesome program with some great people from the theatre world.” It is a dream come true.
Kyle received his associate degree in fine arts in theatre at HACC and looks forward to his future as a Dramaturg as he begins his senior year at York College, where he is completing his bachelor’s degree in theatre.
This photo shows Kyle performing the role of Georg in HACC Theatre’s production of Spring Awakening, for which he also served as Dramaturg.
HACC has a new major! The English major launched in fall 2019, and by end of the academic year, 63 students had declared majors in English.
Isabel Jungclaus was one of the first students to sign up. For Isabel, the decision to declare English as a major was easy: “I have been fascinated with the power of the written word since I was very young. I would read as many books as I could get my hands on, and creating my own worlds through writing seemed to follow naturally. I decided that if I was going to make the commitment to furthering my education, I had better major in something that I am truly passionate about.”
She also knew that HACC was an excellent choice for pursuing her education, especially for returning adult students. Her boyfriend, a fellow HACC student, described his positive experiences and encouraged her to apply. She notes that since arriving at HACC, she has been “expertly guided by professors and advisors who have helped me to have a much clearer understanding of my plans for the future.”
Isabel credits her classes in the English major with broadening her understanding and appreciation of literature and rhetoric and is excited about her future directions. She plans to attend either York College or Penn State University to complete her bachelor’s degree in English and publish her own novel. Keep an eye out for work from Isabel Jungclaus!
Ollie Riley recently graduated with a Certificate in photography with high honors and continues to complete courses at HACC.
Within the past year, Ollie earned the following international honors, one of which was presented at Carnegie Hall in New York City:
● International Photography Awards 2019: First Place, 3rd Place, Two Honorable Mentions
● Tokyo International Foto Awards 2019: Honorable Mention
● London International 2019 Arts Festival: Honorable Mention
