HACC Foundation donors funded renovations to create an additional operatory space at the Harrisburg Campus’ dental treatment facility.
The expansion has created greater capacity for patient treatment and preclinical work in HACC’s Dental Hygiene Program. Additionally, more students have been accepted to the program as a direct result of the increased space availability.
Program faculty believe the operatory offers a wide array of benefits, including:
Improved and personalized learning outcomes for students
Increased community treatment and scheduling opportunities
Enhanced patient interaction and privacy
The fully operational unit will continue to support students and serve HACC’s greater community in practical and purposeful ways for years to come.
HACC Foundation donors funded equipment for HACC students in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) Program to gain practical experience operating the current technology and equipment used in the field. The pieces of equipment purchased included a sonography machine, operational transducers and stretchers.
Proper training on cutting-edge equipment ensures that program graduates are prepared to provide quality services to community members and support workplace readiness. Organizations regularly contact DMS Program staff seeking to hire HACC students and graduates. The new equipment furthers HACC’s commitment to being at the forefront of technology, innovation and vocational training. Information about the state-of-the-art laboratory is shared with future HACC students during student recruitment events.
Here is what some HACC students and faculty had to say:
Philips ultrasound machine: “It’s nice to have tools similar to those we see in the hospital for us to use on campus.” – Regan Robinson, student
Sequoia probe: “This probe is more comfortable than the previous curved probe for this machine. It also replicates what our clinical sites are using.” – Olivia Hunt, student
Stretcher: “This new stretcher helps the students learn how to maneuver patients safely in the clinical settings, and helps them replicate exactly what they will need to do in real life. These stretchers are widely used in our clinical sites, and student familiarity with how to use them properly is absolutely critical to patient safety.” – Mandee Hibshman, director of clinical education, DMS
