Call for Submissions
Talon & Quill welcomes submissions of original, unpublished works in the genres of fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and 2D visual art (drawing, painting, and photography). Submit as many entries as you like, but make sure they fit the guidelines below. We accept work on all subjects but are particularly interested in writing/2d art on topics from other content areas (math, science, and social studies), electives (fine arts, career and technical education, foreign language, social sciences and humanities, STEM, media, and music), and athletics/student clubs.

Creative Nonfiction
Submit one complete work of 1500 words or less (use the submission template)

Accepted file types are JPG or PNG
Images should be high quality, digital scans. (300 dpi or higher - If you need help with this, contact your art teacher or FoxB@gwd50.org (if you aren't currently in an art class)
Creative writing submissions should be carefully proofread. Contact your English teacher if you need help editing your entry or FoxB@gwd50.org (if you aren't currently in an ELA class).
Submissions should be in English. Poetry may be submitted in Spanish and will be published with an English translation. A student editor will contact the submitter to have the proposed translation approved.
Simultaneous submissions are not accepted and work must not be previously published.
Multiple submissions are allowed, but please submit follow the requirements above.
Formatting
All submissions should be typed on the provided templates. Do not change the formatting (e.g. fonts, spacing, or color).
Poetry submissions may follow specific formatting guidelines as per the poet's intention. Poetry should be left-justified, unless it is an intentional part of the form of the poem.
Submission Process
Submissions should be made using the Google Form (see the submit tab)
Attach your submission - typed on the correct template - as a Google Doc. For poetry, you may choose to include multiple poems in a single document.
Response Time
We aim to respond to all submissions within 2 weeks after the submission deadline.
If you haven't received a response within the specified time, feel free to follow up with us via email.
Rights and Permissions
By submitting your work to our journal, you grant us first North American serial rights to publish your work if accepted. Rights revert back to the author upon publication.
We also request the right to include your work in our online archives and any potential future anthologies related to the journal.
Editing and Publication
We may request edits or revisions to accepted works. We will work closely with authors during the editorial process.
If your work is accepted for publication, we will notify you via email.
Upon publication, we encourage contributors to promote their work through social media and personal networks.
Compensation
Unfortunately, at this time, we are unable to offer monetary compensation for accepted submissions. However, if we are able to raise funds for print copies, we will provide each contributor with a complimentary copy of the issue in which their work appears.
