Read three texts of equal length in Mandarin (each text will be from a different context: society, learning, employability or culture)
Questions will be in English
Answers to be written in English
30 marks (10 per text)
Dictionary allowed
One written text of 120-150 characters
Will be in format of job application
You will be given a job advert and six bullet points which you must address in your answer
Four of the bullet points are common and predictable - you can prepare these well before the exam
The last two bullet points are linked to the specific context

Part 1 is a monologue in Chinese (one person speaking)
Answer questions worth 8 marks from part 1
Part 2 is conversation dialogue in Chinese

part 1 = presentation - 10 marks
Spoken presentation in Chinese on topic chosen from one of the four contexts (society, learning, employability or culture)
Presentation lasts approx 1-2 minutes
You can look at prompts: five headings with no more than eight words under, can use visual aids
part 2 conversation - 20 marks
Conversation using detailed language on a different context to presentation topic
This will include some ideas and opinions
You may also ask questions in the conversation
15 marks = conversation
5 marks = ability to sustain conversation
Conversation lasts approx 5-6 minutes
*Performance will be recorded, and marked and internally moderated by your teacher. In the event of verification, this recording may be sent to the SQA for moderation purposes.*
*Due to Coronavirus, the assignment writing section has been been removed from the National 5 course for the 2020-2021 session.*
Produce a piece of writing in Chinese on one of the following contexts: society, learning or culture
Word count = 150-250 Chinese characters
Choose to write about topic of interest and agree this with teacher
First draft can be checked by teacher and you will be provided feedback on areas of improvement
Final draft written under exam conditions - but no time limit
Include: relevant content, ideas and opinions where applicable and the reasons for these opinions
Use a variety and range of sentence structures
