As students at George Washington Academy (GWA) enter Grades 11 and 12, they embark on the final two years of their secondary school journey, a crucial period dedicated to college preparation. Recognizing that not all students have a clear career path defined, GWA offers a comprehensive approach to ensure they are well-prepared for university, equipped with the right qualifications that leverage their individual strengths.

At GWA, we provide three distinct pathways designed to guide students toward their chosen college. All graduating students earn a US Diploma, which serves as the foundational qualification for university admission in the USA, Canada, Europe, and globally.

The Grades 11 and 12 "Three Pathways Approach" at GWA is firmly rooted in courses within the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program (IBDP). This foundation is chosen because the academic rigor and the innovative teaching and learning approaches of the IBDP are believed to best prepare GWA students for the challenges and opportunities that follow graduation. In essence, the program embodies the principles articulated in the school’s core documents – its mission, vision, beliefs, and the Profile of Graduates. The consistent feedback from alumni who pursued IBDP-based courses, indicating their superior preparedness for college compared to their contemporaries, strongly validates this approach.

This integrated approach ensures that all students in Grades 11 and 12 share a common, enriching experience. They will continue a program of study that enables them to earn the necessary credits and meet all other conditions for the GWA High School Diploma. 

Furthermore, all students will study within IBDP courses exclusively, 

• taking subjects from all six DP subject groups. 

• The "Core" element of Theory of Knowledge (ToK) is also a shared experience, and students will either undertake the full 

• Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) "Core" element or a modified Community Service (CS) version, fostering holistic development.
