Students are expected to engage with Math and Language Arts every school day. Science, Social Studies and PE are expected 2-3 times per week.
We are here to support you with finding an academic program that works for your family. You will be able to speak with your Education Supervisor (ES) often through meetings, text and phone calls.
Although we encourage families to participate in many of our options, this the only Mandatory part of our program. Parents and Students contractually must meet with their Education Supervisor every 20 school days, on GVCS campus. You and your ES will come up with a time that works for both of you. It is a time that you, your child(ren) and your Education Supervisor discuss the work you've completed during the past learning period (20 school days) and for families to problem solve any issues or concerns they have. Whole families are invited to these meetings.
We provide $1,000 per semester, for a total of $2,000 per academic year, for each student enrolled in our program. These funds may be used to support your child’s education through the purchase of curriculum, instructional materials, supplies, and approved extracurricular educational opportunities.
Funds may be allocated at your discretion, provided expenses meet established educational guidelines and approval requirements. In addition, we offer a Chromebook lending program at no cost to students to further support their learning.
As part of the Discovery Studies Program, we are affiliated with Grass Valley Charter School and are welcome to participate in the school’s extracurricular activities and events, including athletics, dances, and library services.
In addition, our program offers a dedicated resource room that includes curriculum samples, consumable and non-consumable materials available for checkout, a photocopier for family use, and a variety of educational games, manipulatives, and books to support your student’s educational program.
Discovery Studies has a library with around 3000 items available at any given time. It provides many curricula and hands-on activities for you to check out and take home during your time in our program. You can explore our library at: https://gvcsds.libib.com/
