Students are expected to engage with Math and Language Arts every school day. Science, Social Studies and PE are expected 2-3 times per week.
We are here to support you with finding an academic program that works for your family. You will be able to speak with your Education Supervisor (ES) often through meetings, text and phone calls.
Although we encourage families to participate in many of our options, this the only Mandatory part of our program. Parents and Students contractually must meet with their Education Supervisor every 20 school days, on GVCS campus. You and your ES will come up with a time that works for both of you. It is a time that you, your child(ren) and your Education Supervisor discuss the work you've completed during the past learning period (20 school days) and for families to problem solve any issues or concerns they have. Whole families are invited to these meetings.
We offer $750 per Semester for a total of $1500 per year for each student in our program. This money can be used to help Educate your child by buying supplies, curriculum, using our Vendors (gymnastics, martial arts, piano lessons, etc.)*, and extra curricular educational opportunities for your student. We have no limits on how the money is spent as long as it is on approved educational expenses. We have a Chromebook lending program to support our students learning at no cost to student.
As a part of our Discovery Studies Program, we are part of Grass Valley Charter School and are welcome to join any extra curricular activity or school functions that they offer (sports, dances, library use, etc).
We also have a resource room dedicated to our program that includes samples of curriculum, consumables, non-consumables to check out, a photocopier for your use and educational games, manipulatives, and books to check out and use as part of your students educational program.
Discovery Studies has a library with around 3000 items available at any given time. It provides many curricula and hands-on activity choices for you to check out and have at home during your time in our program. You can explore our public library at: https://gvcsds.libib.com/
