What is Summer SOAR?
SOAR stands for Summer Opportunities for Achievement and Readiness. It is Grain Valley School District's summer program for students in grades 6–12, offering credit recovery, virtual elective courses, in-person electives, A+ tutoring, and enrichment opportunities.
Who is eligible to enroll?
Any incoming 6th–12th grade student in the Grain Valley School District may enroll, subject to course availability.
Is there a cost to attend Summer SOAR?
There is no registration cost. School-prepared breakfast is available for $1.95 and lunch is available for $3.20. Where is Summer SOAR held?
All in-person sessions are held at Grain Valley South Middle School, 901 E Ryan Rd, Grain Valley, MO 64029. High School virtual LAUNCH courses are completed online.
Is transportation provided?
Families are responsible for providing transportation to and from Summer SOAR. A shuttle bus is available for middle school students participating in district-sponsored sports camps (Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, etc.) during summer school.
When does enrollment open and close?
Enrollment is open now. Students who register after May 1, 2026 will be placed on a waiting list. The enrollment window officially closes on May 15, 2026.
What do I need before I start the enrollment form?
Please have the following ready before you begin: your student's Grain Valley district email address (@gvr5.net), your parent/guardian contact information, and your home address.
My student is new to the district and doesn't have a district email yet. What should I do?
Please contact the Grain Valley Leadership Center at (816) 847-5006 to get your student set up. You may still go ahead and complete the online enrollment form in the meantime to register for summer school classes.
How long does enrollment take?
The enrollment form is a simple three-step process and typically takes 5–10 minutes to complete.
Can I save my progress and come back later?
The form needs to be completed in one sitting. If your preferences change after submitting, you may complete the form again — your most recent submission will be used.
Will I receive confirmation that my enrollment was submitted?
Yes — you will receive a confirmation email upon successful submission.
Can I enroll more than one student?
Yes, but you will need to complete a separate enrollment form for each student.
What if I made a mistake on my enrollment form after submitting?

What grade levels does the middle school program serve?
The middle school program serves students finishing 5th, 6th, and 7th grade (incoming 6th, 7th, and 8th graders for the 2026–27 school year).
What is the middle school Summer SOAR experience like?
Middle school Summer SOAR is designed to give students a genuine taste of middle school life! Students rotate through different classes with different teachers throughout the day — similar to how the regular school year works (but without the stress of lockers and homework)!
What courses are offered at the middle school level?
Middle school course offerings include: Adventures in Building, Culinary Adventures: Then & Now, American Trails & Haunted Tales, History & Hollywood, Let's Learn Spanish!, Power Play, Shark Tank: GV Edition, Strength and Conditioning, Brain Brawl: Trivia Showdown, and Timeline Tactics: Games of America.
How do I choose classes for my middle school student?
During enrollment you'll rank your student's top 6 class choices. Schedules are built using your preferences, though selections are subject to availability.
Are students guaranteed their top choices?
We do our best to honor preferences, but course availability may affect final schedules.
How important is attendance?
Very important! Many middle school classes are designed as immersive experiences with projects and activities that build throughout the session. We strongly encourage students to attend every day to get the most out of their summer.
What are the middle school program dates?
June 1 – June 26, 2026. School is not in session on June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.
What pathways are available for high school students?
High school students may enroll in one or more of three pathways: In-Person Electives, In-Person Credit Recovery, and Virtual Elective Courses (LAUNCH). A+ Tutoring opportunities are also available for students to earn tutoring hours over the summer.
Can my student enroll in more than one pathway?
Yes — students may enroll in multiple pathways as long as scheduling allows.
Is lunch available for in-person high school students?
Yes. Lunch is available between the AM and PM sessions from 11:30am–12:00pm. AM session students may grab lunch after their session ends, and PM session students may eat lunch before their session begins.
What are In-Person Electives?
In-person elective courses are held at Grain Valley South Middle School during June. Each course earns 0.5 elective credits toward graduation. Students may take up to 2 courses (1.0 credit total) during June.
What are the in-person session dates?
Session 1: June 1–12, 2026 | Session 2: June 15–26, 2026.
What is Credit Recovery?
Credit recovery allows students to retake courses they did not previously pass. Each completed course earns 0.5 credits. Available course options are displayed automatically during enrollment based on your student's academic record and current availability.
Can my student choose any course for credit recovery?
Only courses that appear in the enrollment app based on your student's academic record are available for credit recovery.
Which session should my student attend for credit recovery?
Courses failed during 1st semester (S1) should be recovered during Session 1 (June 1–12). Courses failed during 2nd semester (S2) should be recovered during Session 2 (June 15–26).
What are the daily session times for credit recovery?
For most credit recovery courses, students may choose either a morning session (8:00–11:30am) or an afternoon session (12:00–2:30pm). PLP Math courses require full-day attendance.
What if my student needs to recover 3 or more credits in the same session?
The enrollment app will notify you if your student selects 3 or more courses within the same session, as they may be required to attend full-day sessions. You will still be able to complete enrollment, and any scheduling adjustments will be communicated before summer school begins.
