When remote learning began in March, 2020, the third grade classes began to use the Studies Weekly app for our Social Science curriculum. This app is aligned with the adopted standards for the state of California. Exploration will guide us along the pathway of discovery as we learn how our community has changed over time. We discover how the Native American Chumash tribe has lived in our Southern California area for thousands of years. We also learn about the history of Los Angeles and our own neighborhood of the Crescenta Valley.
Studies Weekly is available as an app through our Clever single sign on. We will also receive booklets for each unit for additional exploration of the content.
Previously, we used the MacMillan/McGraw-Hill California Social Studies textbook for third grade entitled, California Communities. The first link below continues to provide access to some textbook content. Please note: the book, and therefore the website, are dated and the website mainly includes information that is a peripheral support to the content. We have included the second link as an alternate website. It is not the hardcover textbook we use in class, although it contains additional content, such as vocabulary within Interactive Lesson Summaries, that align with our curriculum.
