Celebrate Black History Month
Join the Black History Month Reading Challenge for children, teens, and adults.
Learn about the history of Black health and wellness in the U.S. and explore mental, emotional, and physical health resources created by and for the Black community. For further reading, check out book recommendations honoring the Black experience. Log your reading and activities to earn badges all month long.
Contest Rules
Each entry must be the original work of one child.
Limit one entry per child.
Designs may be horizontal or vertical and should reflect the theme “Read Beyond the Beaten Path.”
Use the bookmark space provided and turn in this entire form.
Any 2D art medium may be used (crayon, marker, colored pencil, etc.) Please no computer generated images or 3D materials (glitter, glued items, etc.)
Do not put your name on the bookmark. Words and numbers may be included, but all words must be spelled correctly.
Do not use copyrighted characters, art, logos, etc.
The contest runs February 1 - 28 and is open to children in Preschool - Grade 8. All entries must be submitted to a Glendale Library, Arts & Culture location by Monday, February 28.

VALENTINE PILLOWCASE
Saturday, February 12, 3:30 - 5:30 pm
Hand sew and personalize a small decorative pillowcase for Valentine's Day. Registration Required. For ages 8-12.
This program has a kit that needs to be picked up from the Children's Room at the Central Library. After your registration, the kit for this class will be prepared for you. You will then receive an email stating that the kit is ready for pick up. Please wait for the “ready for pickup” email notice before going to Glendale Central Library.
Kit includes: ·muslin fabric, tapestry needle, embroidery thread, yarn, embroidery hoop
Participants must supply: pencil, scissors
Note: Parent supervision is advised while hand sewing.
Challenge yourself to read or listen to any books of your choosing to complete the goal of reading 500 Books Before High School. Along the way, you will earn small tokens of success, a certificate, and a free book that you can retrieve once the library safely reopens.

You can download 3 eBooks per week, for each library card account. To use Freading you will create an account as well as an Adobe ID to access eBooks. If you are using a laptop or desktop, Adobe Digital Editions will need to be installed to read eBooks.
