UNIT 1

When you think about change, what thoughts come to your mind? Have you perhaps changed schools? Have you made new friends? Has an old friend moved away? Change is a part of life. In this unit, you will analyze stories about change, as well as write your own ideas and stories about change.

The first half of the unit exposes students to the concept of change and to the craft of narrative writing. The second half of the unit deepens students' experiences with the narrative genre by shifting from the autobiographical nature of a personal narrative to the development and purpose of real or imagined events. In this unit, students will write a personal narrative and their own original short story.
