Shannon Mack is an accomplished choral music educator who has been the director of choral music at Crescenta Valley High School since 2010. He has had a strong passion for music since he was young and has dedicated his career to sharing that love with students.
Prior to joining Crescenta Valley, Mr. Mack taught choir at Wilson Middle School in Glendale for two years. During his time at Crescenta Valley, he has overseen a number of successful choral programs, including the Concert Choir, Women's Ensemble, and Men's Ensemble, as well as the award-winning chamber choir, Charismatics. He has worked diligently to ensure that his students are able to learn and perform a wide range of music genres while fostering a love for music that lasts well beyond high school.
Mr. Mack received his teaching credential from California State University Long Beach in 2008, and he holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition from the University of Southern California. He went on to earn a Master of Music degree in Choral Music from USC in 2006. During his time at USC, he had the opportunity to study with renowned choral conductor Dr. William Dehning, whose teachings have heavily influenced Mr. Mack's own choral pedagogy. He also studied composition privately with Dr. Morten Lauridsen.
In addition to his work at Crescenta Valley High School, Mr. Mack is also an accomplished church musician and freelance musical director. He has taught piano, voice, conducting, and composition privately since 1997. His knowledge and experience in multiple areas of music have helped him to create a comprehensive and well-rounded choral music program.
Outside of work, Mr. Mack enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons in Orange County. He is an avid traveler and enjoys experiencing different cultures and musical traditions from around the world. With his passion for music education and commitment to excellence, Mr. Shannon Mack is a beloved and respected member of the Crescenta Valley High School community.

Mixed Choir is a beginning choir ensemble at Crescenta Valley High School, created in 2022 to provide a platform for students with a passion for singing to explore and develop their skills. Mixed Choir is open to all genders, with no prior experience or audition required to join.
The choir performs at all four concerts throughout the school year, showcasing their talents and sharing their love for music with the school community. In addition, they participate in at least one adjudicated festival per year, providing an opportunity for the students to receive feedback from experienced judges and perform for other schools.
As the first step in the school's choir program, Mixed Choir is an important part of the music education curriculum. All first-year singers at Crescenta Valley High School begin in Mixed Choir regardless of grade level, providing a level playing field for students to develop their skills and passion for music.

Concert Choir is an intermediate/advanced treble choir at Crescenta Valley High School, catering to singers with high voices. Generally, girls make up this choir, but boys with a comfortable high singing range are also accepted. To become a part of this group, a student must either have experience and pass an audition, or have at least one year of experience in the beginning Mixed Choir.

The Charismatics Chamber Choir is a highly-acclaimed vocal ensemble consisting of the top students from Crescenta Valley High School’s three choirs. This award-winning group is known for their exceptional talent and their dedication to excellence in music. Many of the singers also participate in other extra-curricular activities at CVHS, such as marching band, jazz band, drama, and varsity sports.
The choir performs extensively throughout Southern California, averaging an impressive thirty performances per school year. They have been invited to perform at numerous school, community, and private events, showcasing their musical abilities to a wide variety of audiences. The group's high level of achievement is reflected in the fact that almost all of the students in Charismatics are enrolled in at least one Advanced Placement course.
Past and present members of Charismatics have also been selected to represent Crescenta Valley High School at various honor choir events, including the Southern California Honor Choir, State, Regional and National Honor Choirs. This is a testament to the group's talent and commitment to music.
The Charismatics Chamber Choir is an ensemble with a rich history and tradition of excellence. In 2013, members of the group had the incredible opportunity to perform at Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, as well as giving concerts in Lucca and Venice, Italy. Most recently, in April 2016, members of the choir performed at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall in New York City.

Charismatics fulfills the Visual and Performing Arts course requirement (F) for the University of California. It can also meet the district course requirement for a career prep elective. This course is approved by the University of California for honors credit.
