To ensure that we have a fun and challenging year ahead, I expect each student to behave in ways that contribute to a great learning environment. All students will be respectful of others’ opinions that may be different than their own. As we will discover, there is value in what others have to say, even if we do not tend to agree. We thrive on the strength of our differences, and I expect members of this class to act accordingly. In this class, everyone will:
● Be prompt
● Be positive
● Be respectful
● Be responsible
● Be aware of and adhere to the Gunter ISD and Gunter High School Student Codes of Conduct
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
Identify the elements and characteristics of novels, short stories, drama, poetry, and informational pieces.
Analyze plot structure, characters, conflict, tone, and point of view in literary selections.
Recognize and use appropriate vocabulary words
Create multi-paragraph expository, and persuasive essays using effective thesis statements, introductions, and conclusions
Write using appropriate capitalization, punctuation, and grammar
Write compositions based on literary works read for the class
Research and write compositions with documented information
Use close reading and annotation skills.
