Blogger is another tool that’s included in the G-Suite apps. At this time, students can’t create their own blog site, but they can take part in your blog site. Students must be 18 to create their own blog site and therefore is turned off in our district.
Blogger allows you to create free blogs, through which students who enjoy blogging can better engage with the subject matter. They can post opinions and questions, and share posts from other students. This allows students who don’t answer much in class some time to process before posting an answer or reflection to the class.
We are all looking for ways to have students write more in all content areas. With Blogger, you have them writing! Encourage improved writing skills by having your students use Blogger, but be sure to prohibit text speak like “brb” and “Cu2moro”.
Blogger is simple to set up and here’s a VIDEO on doing just that!
If you’d like to see an excellent use of a blog for a class, visit Mrs. Britta Hubbard’s school webpage. She has a blog set up with her students. https://gms.gunnisonschools.net/bhubbard
The blog site is http://gmsfcs.blogspot.com/
If you love the idea of a blog even outside of the classroom, you can set up a blog to share with family and friends about a variety of topics. However, please use a personal Google account to set up these personal blogs.
