Here's a GREAT
video to get your year going!
(I love this guy!!!)
Google always has updates, and this year is no different! There are many updates - not just in Classroom - but other products as well. In the following weeks, I'll be sharing the updates in other products and go into more detail on some of these updates. Google listens to teachers and these updates are a direct result of your feedback!
Here is the list for Classroom:
- Teachers and students have a new Classwork page. Teachers can post assignments and questions on the page, and also group them into modules or units with topics.
- VIDEO
- For right now, you can't add a Classwork page to a class you've already created. However, Google assures us that soon you'll be able to add the Classwork page to existing classes. This is a perfect time to create a new class for this year. Remember, you can always reuse posts from classes you've used before!!!
- Also, for now, the RESOURCES section is gone. If you are one of the many people who put resources for students on this page, know that Google is working on having that feature available soon. However, in the meantime, create a TOPIC on your CLASSWORK page and call it RESOURCES. Put all your resources there.
New grading tool in Classroom
- Teachers have a new grading tool where they toggle between student submissions while grading, and save common feedback in a comment bank to use later. VIDEO
- Teachers can edit the class description, change the class code, manage guardian summaries, and control Stream settings on a consolidated Settings page. VIDEO
- —Teachers can copy classwork and topics from an existing class to create a new class. VIDEO
- You can copy both active and archived classes. Copies of archived classes become active classes.
Items that copy -The copied class keeps this information from the original class:
- Title
- Section
- Description
- Course subject
- Topics
- Classwork posts (copied as drafts with no scheduled date)
Items that don't copy - The following information doesn’t appear in the copied class:
- Teacher announcements
- Deleted classwork items
- Students and co-teachers
- Student posts
- Attachments that you don’t have permission to copy
Classroom might take a while to copy your class. In the meantime, you can leave the page during the copying process to work on other things. When copying is complete, you’ll get a notification email.
Control notifications by class

- A teacher invites you to teach a course as an additional teacher.
- Someone comments on your post.
