Back to Google Calendar - Let's talk about SHARING!!

Sharing is an important subject with Google Calendar. Remember, that our Google Calendar is part of the Gunnison G-Suite and technically needs to be used for school related activities. However, everyone wants just one calendar to work with and therefore, some of our personal items are thrown in.

Here's what you need to know!

• Anyone in the Gunnison School District can add your 'personal' calendar just by typing in your email address. This is a quick and easy way to share calendars. However, if you have personal information, you may not want that information shared. There are 2 things you can do!
  1. The first thing, if you can do is mark all your personal items on your calendar as private. Even though your share settings are marked with 'Everyone in the Gunnison School District', you can still set specific events as private!
     • At the very bottom of the adding event screen, there is a place to mark your private items as private.
  2. The second thing you could do is turn your calendar to private. To do this, click on the little arrow on the right side of the calendar you want to make private and click Calendar Settings.
     • Once in the settings, on the top of the settings, there are tabs. Click on the Share this Calendar tab.
     • Unclick all the sharing settings. This will make people ask you for permission to add their calendar.
• Each calendar has its own sharing settings. Every calendar you create, you'll need to set those share settings. Remember, if you are going to link a calendar to your website, the calendar MUST BE PUBLIC!!
• To add a link for a calendar to your website, make your calendar public.
  1. Log in to the Gunnison Website and navigate to your page.
  2. Go in to your calendar in Google. Click on the little arrow to the right of the calendar. Go to calendar settings. You can go to share settings and make the calendar public.
  3. Go to the Calendar Details tab at the top of the page and get the ical link for your calendar. Look for Calendar Address and click on iCal - not HTML.
  4. Copy the URL that is displayed.
  5. Go back to your calendar page on your website, click on External Calendars. Find the Green + with add iCal feed and click. Paste in the URL you just copied, click on Add Calendar, the next page you'll name your calendar and click and it will take about 2 hours for the items on your Google Calendar to link up with your website!
