Information for GUS presenters
Types of presentations
Poster presentation: Students will design and print a 40" x 32" poster detailing their project or research. Relevant topics will be grouped together for GUS and students should be prepared to stand near their poster to engage with and answer questions from audience members.
Oral presentation: Students will create and deliver a 10-minute oral presentation and participate in a Q&A session (time of the Q&A will depend on scheduling; it will be at least 10-15 minutes). The oral presentation may be accompanied by a visual slideshow, a printed handout for the audience, a live demonstration, and/or audience participation. Each oral presentation will be grouped in a themed session with 2-4 other presenters and a moderator.
Performance arts presentation: Students will create and deliver a 10-minute presentation. The presentation must include a performance-based component that was created as part of the research process, such as music, theatre, or dance. Students will be grouped in a themed session with 2-4 other presenters and a moderator.
Visual arts and design presentation: Students will showcase art forms developed as part of their research process. This could include paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, architectural models, digital art, experimental media, jewelry, textiles, photography/film, mixed media, and more.
Guidelines for presenters
GUS should be treated as a professional event. This means that, although there is no dress code, most presenters will choose to dress in professional attire (i.e., no athletic wear, no caps, etc.). Some session chairs may require professional attire; please discuss this with your chair beforehand.
Tell your professors and fellow Guilford students that you are presenting at GUS and encourage them to come. You are also welcome and encouraged to invite family members and friends outside the Guilford community to attend GUS.
Please arrive in your location, be it a physical space or a Zoom room. 10 minutes before the session is scheduled to begin.
All presenters, sponsors, and session chairs will receive a token of appreciation for their participation in GUS.
Before and/or after your presentation: Remember that there will be a lot of great presentations going on throughout the day. Attend as many as you can and support your fellow students in their work.Â
