War is fought in far more ways than on the battle field. In the 20th century, instances of insurgency were propeled by circumstances observed just as much in the 21st century: instability. The intertwined concepts of subversion and insurgency then start showing color; aspects of covert war which shape people. Research of the following subject will aim to cover: guerrilla warfare, terrorism, political mobilization, populism control, infiltration of institutions, economic manipulation, disinformation, propaganda and espionage. Examples will include varying locations and groups but focus in particular on The Troubles of Northern Ireland and other conflicts in which Britain involved themselves in the aforementioned century.
