Engaged Learning Initiative

GCSD Engaged Learning Initiative through 1:1

The Engaged Learning initiative aligns with the district's vision and mission by providing students in grades 5-12 with regular, equitable access to digital learning tools in school and at home.

Students in grades 5-12 will receive a Chromebook for in-school and at-home use at the start of every school year. 5th grade students will NOT follow the take home model; their Chromebooks will remain at school. Students will be expected to bring their Chromebooks to school every day and to use them for all computer-based school assignments. There is no fee to families unless a student’s Chromebook is damaged, lost or stolen━the same policy as for textbooks.

We ask that parents complete the training and agreement linked below under "Information for Parents" before obtaining their chromebook on distribution day. Distribution dates will be announced soon and parents will be notified.

Vision Statement

Stemming from our district vision, the Engaged Learning Initiative through a 1:1 chromebook model at GCSD will focus on continuously improving student learning outcomes by providing necessary tools into the hands of each student making their education more engaging as well as empowering the students with the technology skills needed to succeed in the future. This in turn, can positively transform the way teaching and learning takes place. By providing equal access to technology in the form of a Chromebook to each student, we will provide opportunities for creativity, communication and critical thinking that we hope will prepare the students to be ready to meet the developments, challenges and opportunities of their future.

Program Focus

The focus of the ELI is to provide current tools and resources to empower our students to be successful in life. Excellence in education requires that technology be seamlessly integrated throughout the educational program. Increasing access to technology is essential, and one of the best learning tools is the Chromebook. The individual use of Chromebooks is a way to empower students to maximize their full potential and to prepare them for postsecondary education and the modern workplace. According to studies and school reports, students who use a computing device in a one-to-one (1:1) education environment are more organized and engaged learners, attend school more regularly, advance their knowledge and understanding of technology, and become constructors and designers of information and ideas. The Chromebook is a next generation device that makes learning more engaging and accessible.

Learning results from the continuous dynamic interaction among students, educators, parents/guardians, and the extended community. However, technology immersion does not diminish the vital role of the teacher but transforms the teacher from the director of learning to a facilitator of learning. Effective teaching and learning with Chromebooks integrates technology into the curriculum anytime, anyplace.

Program Goals

  • Provide ubiquitous access to technology for students
  • Increase learning engagement
  • Increase collaborative learning
  • Increase in digital skillset
  • Increase of personal productivity and efficiency
  • Expand the walls of the classroom to a more global learning experience

2. On your device, connect to "Guilderland_Schools" Wifi.

3. When prompted, log in with your Active Directory credentials ( lastnamefirstinitial and password. Example: Smithj password: 123456)

If you are having trouble, please follow the steps outlined in our support database. Please note that most of the documentation in this website is being renamed to the new Wifi name but the steps outlined are the same. Wherever it reads "BYOD" it is the same as "Guilderland_Schools"
