Securly classroom

Securly Classroom is a cloud-based classroom management tool for Chrome, giving teachers new freedom to guide, monitor and communicate with students during in-person or remote learning. Securly Classroom allows teachers to point students to classroom resources and supports quickly. They can also keep students on task by removing distractions and blocking troublesome websites. Teachers are also able to view student activity on devices during active Securly sessions, when students are signed into Google Chrome using their @guilderlandschools.net accounts. Teachers may only activate Securly Classroom sessions on Mondays through Fridays from 7am-5pm .

Securly Classroom only works with Google Classroom. Teachers must set up their Google Classroom first in order to be able to use Seculry Classroom.

All GCSD K-12 teachers have access to premium Securly Classroom accounts; however, not all teachers or schools may choose to use this tool.

Information for Parents

  1. Students must be signed into Google Chrome at the browser level (Chrome Browser)

  2. All students have the Securly Classroom Chrome extension pushed to their Google School issued accounts (regardless of device).

  3. Visibility is ONLY offered inside the browser window. It is not possible to see the full computer desktop or anything happening with other apps, other browsers, or even in other Chrome user sessions that are not logged in or that are logged in with a non-school account like a personal Gmail account.

  4. When a teacher activates a class session in Securly, students will see a notification on the lower-right corner of their screen alerting them that their Chromebook is being monitored

  5. A Securly extension icon will also change from grey to color during active sessions.

  6. When the teacher ends the class session, their extension will be greyed out and they will receive a message that they are no longer being monitored.

  7. It is not possible for teachers to activate the Chromebook camera or microphone or use this service for unobserved surveillance.

  8. Securly only works from Monday to Friday from 7 am to 5 pm. Remember that class sessions can ONLY be started during configured school hours, preventing screen viewing or browsing history review during non-school hours. This helps address privacy concerns.
