Physical Education
A PE uniform is required to be worn in all Physical Education classes.
Physical Education S1-S2 Grades 9-12 2 Semesters 1 Credit
This required course is designed to introduce students to the fundamental concepts associated with health-related fitness and leading a physically active lifestyle. Students will engage in a variety of activities related to improving aerobic fitness, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition. Students will also have an opportunity to participate in activities that integrate the five components of health-related fitness as well as activities that promote lifetime physical activity. Fitness activities and co-educational units are included in this course.
Physical Education-Varsity Sports S1-S2 Grades 9-12 2 Semesters 1 Credit
All campuses except Online
Prerequisite: Head Coach Approval
Physical Education-Varsity Sports is designed for students to improve the athletes' sports-specific skills, increase sport-specific training (weight training, conditioning, agility, etc.), and learn advanced theory and practice the offensive and defensive strategies to assist athletes to excel in their sport. This course is open to athletes participating in an interscholastic varsity sports program. May be repeated for credit.
Advanced Physical Education S1-S2 Grades 10-12 2 Semesters 1 Credit
All campuses except Apollo and Online
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Physical Education 1-2
This course can be taken for 1 semester or the full year and is designed to improve skill techniques and to introduce students to leisure and/or lifetime fitness activities. Throughout the year students will be given a choice of activities which may include: Aerobic Conditioning, Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Fitness Activities, Flag Football, Golf, Racquetball, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Track, Volleyball, Weight Training, and Yoga. This course may be repeated for credit.
Systematic Conditioning S1-S2 Grades 10-12 1 Semester ½ Credit
All campuses except Online
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Physical Education 1-2
This course is designed to give the student an opportunity to develop their body systems into peak physical condition and appearance and to have the student understand how to maintain this level throughout life. Each student will develop an individualized program as the principles of conditioning and training are learned. Emphasis will be placed on increasing the muscular structure, running for stamina, physical training, and weight controls. Classroom lectures and written tests on the body systems may be included in the course. This course may be repeated for credit.
