Summer Programs & Internships

The Health Careers Institute for high school students at the Midwestern University, Glendale campus is a free educational opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to explore a variety of health professions.

Participants will learn from Midwestern University faculty and students at this FREE 8-day hands-on workshop.

Sparky’s Virtual Experience will allow students take part in a two-week digital exploration of ASU. Students will receive college readiness workshops, virtual college tours, SPARKS panels and career exploration 

Students can volunteer in both clinic and hospital settings during this intensive nine-week program at the Mayo Clinic, where volunteers learn valuable skills about healthcare and medicine firsthand.

High schoolers can gain real-world media experience and get a taste of college life at this exciting residential summer program. Participants are exposed to a variety of types of media, including visual, audio, and narrative storytelling, while exploring numerous fields within journalism and mass communication, such as sports journalism, broadcast journalism, and digital marketing.

Jump into new genres of writing, connect with campers across the globe, and learn from notable authors, editors, and educators in Write the World’s Virtual Writing Camp. 

Week-long summer program that encourages students to embrace community service and civic engagement, as well as develop their leadership skills. Participants also explore the opportunities available at ASU and work with college advisors to plan for college admissions and learn how to translate their interests into career opportunities. 

This free residential program is aimed at high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are interested in STEM careers and come from backgrounds that are typically underrepresented in the field. The program provides students the opportunity to begin their mathematical studies—and earn college credit—while still in high school. 

Arizona Summer Engineering Academy (SEA) has offered summer outreach programs for rising 9th through 12th graders, as well as Class of 2025.

Summer Seminar at the United States Air Force Academy offers a unique opportunity to get the Academy experience first-hand. Specially designed for high school juniors heading into their senior year, Summer Seminar is a recruiting program that allows participants to see themselves as a USAFA cadet. 

Summer Leaders Experience (SLE) is highly competitive since there are normally 6,000 applicants and capacity for just 1,000 attendees. SLE gives high school juniors a week to experience life as a cadet to inform their college selection decision. SLE is a fast-paced program of academic classes, military training, physical fitness training, and intramural athletics conducted during the first half of June each year.  You must have standardized test scores to be considered for SLE.  

Student Leaders recognizes those who lead and serve in their own communities and beyond. Bank of America will connect Student Leaders to tools and resources that will help them make communities better. A Student Leader will: work as a paid intern at a local nonprofit for 8 weeks, attending the week-long seminar in Washington, DC, develop leadership and career skills, and connect with like-minded students from your own community and across the country.  

Banner Boswell’s Junior Volunteer program provides teenagers with the opportunity to learn more about health care and give back to the community and our patients. Junior volunteers work in dozens of roles in nearly all departments, including Pharmacy, our Child Development Center, nursing units and even at our coffee bar. The eight-week program is open to young adults age 14 and older. For more information on volunteering

Throughout the eight-week internship, you'll attend weekly lab meetings to present your progress, discuss challenges, and receive feedback from peers and professors. At the program's conclusion, you'll showcase your research findings in a presentation, an excellent opportunity to discuss what you've learned and potentially continue the project in your higher education journey.

The Barrow Neurological Institute, the largest neurological disease treatment and research center globally, offers a research-focused Summer High School Internship Program.
