Jmy Holloway, who was a fixture of Glendale Apollo High basketball from 2008-11, died on Tuesday. He was battling Hodgkin lymphoma.

He was 25.

Holloway was the Western Sky Region Player of the Year in 2011.

Apollo coach Jacob Marin was helping Holloway through his battle, hosting a charity event in December to raise money to help Holloway receive needed treatment in North Carolina to try to get the cancer in remission.

Holloway was living with Marin.

"He had been in a decline for the past couple weeks," Marin said. "What I personally will remember the most was how he took on the big brother role to my three kids.

"They absolutely adored him and he took them under his wing. He was an absolute blessing to our family From a basketball perspective, I know it’s a cliche, but he truly was the easiest kid to coach ever. Hard worker, tenacious competitor, fearless and selfless. Great teammate I know all of his teammates loved him dearly. Great leader."

Holloway was the youngest of six children. He was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma when he was 21.

"He had an unbelievable relationship with his siblings and his mother," Marin said. "They loved him and were there for him very much."

Holloway's brother, Shayar Lee, is one of Marin's assistant coaches. Lee was part of Apollo's run of three consecutive state basketball championships from 2005-07.
