Use a spiral-bound notebook to record your thinking before and after EACH reading session.
Fold each page in half length-wise
Label the left side, "Pre-reading"
Record your thoughts about your book BEFORE each time you read. Ask yourself questions like,
"What do I think this book or section will be about?
How may this book connect to the world around me?
How am I feeling as I sit down to read?"
Label the right side, "Post-reading"
Record your thoughts about your book AFTER each time you read. Ask yourself questions like,
"What does this book remind me of?
What connections can I make?
What BIG ideas or questions is the author grappling with?
Who might this author be writing for? What questions do you have now?
What do you predict may happen next?
What is the author's purpose in writing this piece?"
Please don't summarize!
These notes will be helpful in August during our time together.
You will discuss and write about this book in August, so come prepared with quality journal entries.
