Here are some bonus "artsy" pictures (with a little context and commentary from Ms. Sannwald) taken in the WHHS library by one of our amazing student library aides, who also happens to be a talented photographer. Thank you, Riley!
Like within the pages of a book, this image captures how the library can open up opportunities.
This is one of Ms. Sannwald's favorite student art installations. It is a quilted wire sculpture made up of many individual student pieces. Arranged in a round, it represents continuity of community. And, since it is mounted from the ceiling, people may not notice it unless they remember to look up!
This is a perspective looking from inside the bookcases out to the main seating area. While there are no students currently in the space, the chair that is not pushed in is a reminder of a student who must have just left and the Student Art Gallery as evidence of students' many contributions to the library.
Books! While the library is an active hub of learning of all sorts, it remains a place for students to pursue learning and develop a love of reading through books, as well. This image captures a sea of books on the new books display with even more on shelves in the background.
This magnetic poetry activity center is embedded in the bookcases near the poetry books. It represents the library's goals to not only have students consume the works of others, but to also actively participate in the construction of knowledge and the creation of their own works.
This 3D art piece mounted on top of one of the book shelves adds so much vibrancy of the library, just like the students who created this piece. From this angle, the library's light fixture is also juxtaposed in the background, also serving as a representation of how students also light up the library and our school.
This globe in the library is an old one, but it serves as the centerpiece of a book display that features books from around the world. The old is offset by the new with student-made 3D letters circling the globe to spell: READ AROUND THE WORLD. With this photo focusing on the word WORLD, it is a reminder of how the library opens up a whole world for students and how students have the whole world ahead of them.
