What is AVID?

AVID

AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness system that is designed to increase school-wide learning and performance.

AVID is not just another program . . . .

At it's heart, AVID is a philosophy that holds students accountable to the highest standards. AVID provides academic and social support so that students will thrive and rise to life's challenges during their high school and college careers. AVID not only teaches academic skills, it inspires students to use their individual power to achieve their goals.

Philosophy & Focus

Although AVID serves all students, the AVID elective focuses on the least served students in the academic middle. The formula is simple - raise expectations of students and, with the AVID support system in place, they will rise to the challenge. The AVID College Readiness System (ACRS) accelerates student learning, uses research based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional learning, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change.

Curriculum

WICOR: Focuses on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading skills for high school and college success.
