Strategies include the following:

  • Word solving in context: Modeling word solving and student use of word solving based on in context clues
  • Word cards: Creating word cards with drawings and information for sorting and arranging in arrays
  • Mnemonics: Visual, auditory or verbal, and alphabetic or semantic
  • Wide reading: Across content areas, sources, formats, and genre
