Civilized Sources

We are having fun using the word "civilized," because it ties in well with Lord of the Flies. What you may hear more often are the following questions:

• How do you evaluate an information source?
• How can you tell if a source is trustworthy?
• How can you tell if a source is acceptable for your Works Cited?

• The value of a source depends on your context (your use of it).
• For "civilized" academic research and writing, you may sometimes be required to use library online database resources to find "peer-reviewed" journal articles.
• For this particular assignment, your teacher is not requiring that you use an officially "peer-reviewed" article, but your goal is to find one that you will be able to defend is worthy to cite. Still, starting with one of our library's online databases is a good place to start. Try it!

• GUHSD subscribes to online databases so that students have FREE access to valuable information that cannot be accessed when using Google to search the general web. These types of databases are commonly required for use in college.
• For this project (and many others), a good general online database to use is EBSCOhost.
