Friendships

Hauder is very popular on campus so on the one hand, he doesn’t need any help with this. However, as I have gotten to know him, I noticed that he really doesn’t do anything with friends after the school day is over. I can help “facilitate” friendships for him by making sure that he has lots of opportunities to talk to other students. I can encourage him to talk to other people in the classroom. Also, I want to go over the school calendar with him so he could choose an afterschool sport to participate in. Even if he isn’t able to play on the team, I bet he could do something like manager or water-boy. Also, he likes trying to speak in Spanish and I am in the Spanish club, so I take him with me to a club meeting to see how he likes it. For accommodations, I could program some Spanish messages in his iPad so that he could say more than just the simple greetings he knows while in the club. How we interpret the students we work with is really important. I will always provide a positive interpretation of him when I talk to other people about him. All of these ideas will help Hauder participate with others more and possibly make more friends.

These are some activities that Hauder participated outside of the school day! He went to look at Christmas lights, participated in the lunch fundraiser for his club and also a movie. I was so proud of him for getting more involved!
