Represent knowledge discoveries and connections from your research through images.

How can you represent your findings visually?

  • Photos or screenshots of your book text and/or research with annotation - see #BookSnaps info below.
  • Images that capture meaning of your book text and/or research. Note, use images you have rights to reuse and provide proper attribution when reusing images that may be shared with attribution. In Virtual Makerspace, browse "Free Photos for Creations" links.
  • Repost other related or relevant Instagram images using a repost app that provides proper attribution to the original poster.
  • Memes that you make up using a meme maker app like Meme Generator, Imgflip, or other similar apps.
  • Highlight notable quotes using a quote maker app like Instagram Quotes Maker. See lists of other apps.
  • QR codes that link to research links. Create QR codes with QR Code Generator or other similar apps.
  • Other ideas?

#BookSnaps (popularized by Tara M. Martin)

  • Consider using Snapchat tools to annotate excerpts from text or other images. See examples.
  • Alternatively, you may use other image editing tools such as Google Drawings. If you use Google Drawings, download annotated images as "JPEG image."

Post images on Instagram using thoughtful descriptions and effective hashtags.

  • Make sure to track text references and URLs to research findings, whether in Instagram post descriptions and/or using a separate log.
  • If you are posting links within Instagram post descriptions, it may be helpful to use a link shortener like Bitly.
  • HINT: It is best to post each image individually on Instagram and not multiple images per post since you will only be able to select the "top" image to share via Storify later.

As you post images, follow the posts of classmates to see what they are discovering and to spot potential interconnections.

  • Encourage and challenge classmates with thoughtful comments and questions.
  • If you notice interconnections with your own reading and research, comment with hashtags that connect with your own project and/or repost content using a repost app that provides proper attribution to the original poster, while allowing you to customize the image description.

Synthesize and contextualize social media posts, including ones you've posted.

OPTION 1: Storify

NOTE: After the project was due, there was an announcement that Storify is being sunsetted! This probably explains why there was not responsiveness from support regarding technical issues.

Use Storify to create the "story" of your reading and research journey. Use the "Storify Free Sign Up" option.

Below are some links help you become familiar with the program.

OPTION 2: Adobe Spark Page

  1. Take screenshots of Instagram posts.
  2. Log into Adobe Spark and create a new "Page."
  3. Upload screenshot images of Instagram posts (versus inserting posts as you would with Storify).
  4. You will still have the same ability to insert explanatory text, etc.

OPTION 3: Google Site

  1. Take screenshots of Instagram posts.
  2. From Google Drive, create a new Site.
  3. Upload screenshot images of Instagram posts (versus inserting posts as you would with Storify).
  4. You will still have the same ability to insert explanatory text, etc.

OPTION 4: Weebly Website

  • Create a free website with Weebly (or another similar service).
  • If you use this option, remember that you can embed social media posts by copying embed code from Instagram posts and then pasting it in Weebly's </> Embed Code widget.

  • Check out this sample Weebly site (created for a fiction book when Ms. Sannwald was getting her MLIS). Notice how there is external research integrated such as when describing About the Author and the Context.
