Technology Addiction

Technology Addiction can be defined as excessive and unnecessary use of technology. For example, a family is sitting together at a restaurants, but all of them are on their phones instead of socializing.

Technology is a big problem in America and around the world. 56% of Americans own smartphones, and use them for a variety of uses. The average American will spend an average of 5 hours per day on their phone alone. This is not including the time spent watching TV or on the computer. Additionally, 50% of teens said they feel addicted to their phones, and 59% of parents thought their teens were addicted.

Some symptoms of technology addiction is reaching for the phone first thing in the morning, using phones when bored, increasing cell phone use, anxiety or agitation when phone is missing, loved ones complain about the person's screen time, inability to cut back on screen time, and many others.

Technology addiction has many negative effects. People who are addicted do not socialize with other people and neglect themselves. This can harm the addict's relationships with their friends and family. They also use their phone more and more, even when driving or trying to go to bed. The addict does not do their work in preference to their phone, and may be fired from their job.

Technology addiction is a major problem in the United States, especially since the iPhone was released. It causes trouble, and can ruin a person's life. Despite this, people still use technology and get addicted to it. However, technology will be the only way we will be able to progress, and hopefully while we progress we solve the problem of technology addiction.
