Try synonyms or related terms. You might try acronyms, as well as the full words they represent.
Some non-Google databases will require simplifying keywords to be less specific.
With Google, it can be helpful to be more specific, including adding "context terms" (see embedded doc below). For example, do not just search: Vietnam War - try searching: Vietnam War libguide
