Course Description:
How to use NX to analyze space frames and similar structures using 1D meshes.
Prereqs:
Basic understanding of statics
Topics Covered:
Theory
Beam bending and stresses
Space frame design
CAD aspects
Designing a space frame in SolidWorks with 3D sketches
Exporting it correctly
Meshing
Different types of meshes
Applying a 1D mesh
Setting up a 1D mesh collector correctly (materials, non-structural mass, etc.)
Simulation
Applying constraints
Applying loading
Different types of loading distribution (geometric, total, spatial distribution)
Practice Scope
Design a simple truss based off specifications
Follow the steps to complete the FEA simulation and see if you are able to get results
Instructor Qualification:
Do 1D FEA on an actual car part and replicate current instructors’ results (or tell them what they did wrong!)
