The Greenwich School Minecraft Clubs provide students an opportunity to explore different biomes, interact with wild animals, mine valuable resources, craft tools, and construct magnificent structures. The club votes on whether we play in creative or survival mode, and whether or not hostile mobs are enabled. In addition to free exploration and building each week we offer challenges such as: theme build, find hidden treasure boxes, or craft useful objects (after mining the materials).

Server Security

Our worlds reside on a secure school-based MinecraftEdu server. This software allows schools to create a safe environment where students can build, explore, and even practice academic skills. Students will be neither required nor permitted to use a personal Mojang or Minecraft account. Students will not be able to access this world from home. The server opens at the start of club, closes when we leave for the day.

Learning Goals

Children learn so much through what appears to be simple play. During this club, we will:

  • investigate problems and find possible solutions

  • use information literacy skills to research game mechanics

  • practice collaboration and communication skills

  • adopt a growth mindset, view failure as a form of information gathering

Mrs. Bond, the School Library Media Specialist, is the club advisor. She has been playing Minecraft with her children, friends, other teachers, and gamers around the world since 2010. While she prefers to build in creative mode, she will occasionally play survival with her son. Families may contact Mrs. Bond (bondm@gtsd.net) with questions about the Greenwich School Minecraft Club.
