We have had an excellent half term at Brunswick Park. Our value for the half term, kindness, has been shining brightly! I have been incredibly impressed by the kindness that I have witnessed every day - this has also been commented on by guests who have visited us over the past 6 weeks. Well done to all our brilliant Brunswick Park children.
We were delighted to welcome school governors to one of our celebration assemblies today to join in with our end of the week celebrations.
I wish you a brilliant half term and look forward to seeing you on Monday 2nd June.

Reading Corner
This week our Reading Ambassadors read ‘Grey’ to allocated classes across school and Mrs Sem read ‘The Invisible’ story in assembly.
Here are some of the pupil’s views:
“I liked the way the story demonstrates how our emotions can change so quickly throughout the day.”
“I liked the way the girl’s mum showed her love by caring for her.”
“The endpapers are interesting as they show the child’s changing emotions – the front is all grey and the back is all colourful.”
“The cut outs on some of the pages are very carefully placed and add interest to the book.”
“The books shows that you don’t need words in a book to read it. It was a nice story to share information about braille.”
“I learnt that all stories have a meaning – a moral. The page may look empty, but when a blind reader touches a page they are taken away into the adventure.”
“I liked the way that colour was slowly added to the pages as the text gets read.”
Reading Ambassador Book Recommendation
The best thing about reading is learning new things and the opportunity to enter a new world through different fiction.
My favourite book at the moment is Daisy and the Trouble with Chocolate.
I love these because Daisy gets up to a lot of mischief like sneaking a hamster into Chocolate World and then dropping it into the melted chocolate. Would you eat this chocolate?
I think you will enjoy this book because it is easy to read with lots of exciting images.
My favourite author at present is Kes Gray.
I would like to read ‘Daisy and the Trouble with Coconuts’ next. I wonder what mayhem coconuts can cause!

Chatter Matters
IT’S GOOD TO TALK!
As a school, we will be trialling new ways to introduce and develop oracy skills, through paired, group and whole class discussions. Oracy (speaking and listening) underpins all that we do and these skills are the building blocks of learning.
We would love to involve parents, carers and wider family members in this process, so we have decided to introduce a weekly question for families to discuss together. The idea is to get the pupils talking in a structured way, building upon ideas and challenging other peoples’ ideas and opinions too.
We hope that this will be both interesting and fun!
This is a chance to:
help your child to think through and discuss initial ideas in order to develop the thought process
ask your child for their opinions using the word ‘because’
explain your own opinion and how it is fine to have different views or opinions
develop your child’s vocabulary.
Top Tips:
make it an enjoyable activity
encourage as many family members as possible to be involved
switch off the television to try to ensure that this is dedicated talking and listening time
find times which work for the family. For example, at dinner times or during car journeys, or a walk somewhere
use the word ‘because’ to explain why
ask your child for their opinions and encourage them to expand on their ideas. For example, Why do you feel this way? Why is this important to you?
encourage thinking about exciting words to use
begin the conversation by modelling . . . “I think that… because …"
“Would you rather” questions are a fun and engaging way to encourage critical thinking and imagination. This week’s questions for discussion are . . .
Would you rather be invisible or have the power to fly?
Would you rather play a hero or a villain?
