News from the Park
Parent Newsletter 22 01.03.2024
We have had another wonderful week at Brunswick Park.
This week, Year 3 took part in an exciting workshop which was thoroughly enjoyed by all pupils. They picked up lots of facts about the Anglo-Saxons whilst sailing across the North Sea to Britain, building their ‘ham’ (village) and pleasing the King by paying their taxes. Year 3 then enjoyed some fortune-telling before acting out the story of Beowulf.
Year 4 had a wonderful time on Tuesday at the 'artsdepot' showcasing what they have learnt in their clarinet and flute lessons. The children learnt two new songs, performing these as one ensemble at the end of the day, alongside other schools playing their guitars and trumpets. They also learnt to sing a sea shanty and perfected their pirate 'arghs'! I was delighted to receive an email from the organiser who commented that they were very impressed by the children's performance and their musicality! A huge well done to Year 4 and the Year 4 teaching team - thank you for being excellent Brunswick Park role models.
Reading Corner
Book award season is upon us!
Book award shortlists are a great place to get ideas for books to read. As a school, we will be taking part in the Yoto Carnegie Shadowing scheme again. After the shortlist is announced, we will be sharing the books during assemblies and in class. Then, each class will vote on their favourite book which will go forward to the national vote.
Other book awards which are worth looking at for ideas for your children are:
The UK Literacy Association Book Award https://ukla.org/news/outstanding-longlists-for-the-2024-ukla-book-awards/
The Children’s Book Award https://fcbg.org.uk/childrens-book-award-2023/
The Lollies – this award is for funny books https://shop.scholastic.co.uk/lollies
The Brandford Boase award is for the best young person’s book from a debut author https://branfordboaseaward.org.uk/2024-longlist/
Keep reading everyone!

School Uniform
Please be reminded that children should wear correct uniform at all times (this includes PE kits). Please ensure all school uniform is clearly named. Hair should be tied back and nail varnish must not be worn. The only jewellery that can be worn to school is a watch (no smart watches) and stud earrings. This is to keep children safe from injury - we thank you for your understanding.
