We are now well into the throws of this half term.
School trips are being planned and the diary is filling up quickly with lots of lovely activities and projects.
Please check the dates for the diary each week. There will be new entries/amendments to look out for.
Attendance
We have noticed a significant increase in children arriving late for school and a drop in overall attendance.
Good attendance is vital to supporting both your child’s academic progress and their wellbeing. Children who are regularly absent often experience difficulties with school work and have difficulty making and keeping reliable friends.
An attendance of 90% means your child is missing one day off school every fortnight. This is 4 or 5 lessons every fortnight. An attendance of 80% means your child is missing one day off every week, this is 4 or 5 lessons every week. Children who do not attend school regularly are receiving the message that school is not important. This will impact how they view education and learning when they are older.
Please ensure that whenever possible, your children arrive at school before 8:50am and come to school on every day that it is possible for them to do so. This will support their enjoyment of school and their progress and attainment.
Dogs
Please may we remind you that dogs are not permitted in the school even if they are being carried. Neither should they be tied up to any fencing/railings inside or outside the grounds.
Parking
It is a shame that once again we are having to mention parking. Not only are we being contacted by residents, we are also being contacted by our parents who are concerned about other parents parking disrespectfully and dangerously. The main areas of concern are around Nurseryman's Road and the roundabout at the bottom of the service road.
Cars must not park on the roundabout, block entrances or park on double yellow lines/zigzag lines. It is dangerous to you and others, especially the children.
We ask parents to think about the bigger picture of what would happen in an emergency. This is not acceptable and we would urge all parents/carers to show respect for each other and act in line with our Parent Code of Conduct.
Reading Corner
The Brunswick Park Team are looking forward to celebrating National Storytelling Week (2nd – 6th February 2026).
A number of light-hearted activities will be taking place during the week to inspire pupils to pick up a book and read for pleasure.
Reading Ambassador Book Recommendation
The best thing about reading is to learn more adventurous vocabulary and use it in creative writing.
My favourite story at the moment is ‘The Girl Who Stole an Elephant’ by Nizrana Farook.
I love it because it is a great adventure story about a girl called Chaya, who steals the Queen’s jewels and escapes on a stolen elephant.
I think you will enjoy this book because they stole the Queen’s jewels so that they can help the poor people in their village.
When reading, I felt like I was Chaya on her adventure to help others.
My favourite authors at present is David Walliam’s because his books are funny and entertaining.
I would like to read ‘The Girl Who Stole a Leopard’ by Nizrana Farook next.
