News from the Park
Parent Newsletter 11 24.11.23
Hello - I hope you have had a good week.
This week, Nursery went on an exciting autumn walk. They had great fun making tree bark rubbings, listening to the birds tweeting and taking part in autumn challenges. They thoroughly enjoyed watching the leaves fall as they sang their special autumn song.
Year 1 had a brilliant time visiting the Barnet Museum. They took part in a workshop where they learnt about toys throughout history. Also, they really enjoyed exploring the museum and seeing all the artefacts.
On Wednesday, Year 6 successfully hosted the Wonky Heart Challenge - a big well done and thank you to the whole Year 6 team! It was a great success: everyone should feel proud of their achievements and the money they raised for the Royal Free Charity. Well done Brunswick Park! Anyone still wanting to pay their sponsorship money can do so on SchoolMoney, bring to Year 6 or the office.
Healthy lunches and snacks
If your child has a packed lunch, it is important that they are provided with healthy and nutritious food. Please remember we are a nut free school so nuts or products containing them must not be sent into school.
Whether squeezing it in before the school run in the morning or before bed on busy midweek evenings, preparing your child's lunchbox can seem like just another thing on the list. School meals are a great choice, but if you do make a packed lunch for your child then click on the link below for a range of quick, easy, healthier lunchbox ideas and tips:

If your child is in KS2 we encourage you to send in a healthy snack for your child to enjoy at morning break time - our days are very busy and children need to stay full of energy! Fruit and vegetables snacks are provided for children in EYFS and KS1.
Snacks must be either fruit or vegetables only. Please remember that we are a nut free school. Please do not send in any nuts or products containing them. Thank you for your support and understanding.
Reminder - Conflict in Israel and Gaza cake sale
On Monday 27th November, a group of parents will be holding a cake sale to support the Red Cross with their efforts. The sale will take place under the shelter. If you are able to donate cakes, please do so. Please remember that we are a nut free school.
School Uniform
Please be reminded that children should wear correct uniform at all times, this includes PE kits. Hair should be tied back. Children should not wear jewellery apart from a watch (no smart watches) and stud earrings only. This is to keep children safe from injury - we thank you for your understanding.
Parking
May we ask parents to ensure that they are parking legally and respectfully. Every week, we are contacted by local residents informing us that some members of our Brunswick Park school community are parking where they should not be, especially on the service road and Nurserymans Road. Cars must not park on the roundabout, block entrances or park on double yellow lines/zigzag lines. It is dangerous to you and others, especially the children.
We ask parents to think about the bigger picture of what would happen in an emergency. Unfortunately, we have had reports of parents being aggressive to others. This is not acceptable and we would urge all parents/carers to show respect for each other and act in line with our Code of Conduct.
Children In Need
Yet again the community of Brunswick Park has come together and helped raise a fantastic £625 for the Children in Need Charity. The children had a wonderful time decorating the cookies that Jackie and the kitchen team lovingly baked for them and the cake and merchandise sales helped boost the total after the money collected by each class for the cookies. The school council would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who donated.
Reminder- Christmas Dinner and Jumper Day
Further to our previous Newsletter and email on Monday 18th December we will be having our annual Christmas Dinner and Christmas Jumper Day.
If your child usually has a packed lunch but would like a Christmas Dinner on this day, please email the office by the 4th December so that the kitchen can order the food. There will be both halal and non halal turkey available.
Please ensure that you state your child's name and class.
Reading Corner
Is your child stuck in a reading rut and will only read one type of book? Over the next few months, we will be suggesting some alternatives to the most popular books to help get them out of that rut.
The Beast Quest series has gripped younger readers who enjoy action, adventure and fantasy. Often these are the first chapter books that children enjoy. Fearsome battles, fantastical beasts and epic rescue quests all characterise this best-selling children’s series containing over one hundred titles.
Younger children could try the Astrosaurs books by Steve Cole or Cressida Cowell’s wonderful How to Train Your Dragon series. For more good-versus-evil quests of heroes and heroines in imaginative worlds, try the Dragon Storm books by Alastair Chisolm or Tom Nicoll’s gaming-themed adventure Level Up!.
Older readers who love fearsome beasts and fantastic creatures might enjoy trying the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan and those who want to get stuck into more fantasy adventure books like Beast Quest will enjoy Podkin One Ear by Kieran Larwood.
As always, our librarians are on hand to help our KS1 children to make suitable book choices on Tuesday lunchtimes in the library.
