News from the Park
Parent Newsletter 9 10.11.2023
They say time flies when you are having fun and that is definitely true at Brunswick Park. Another week full of incredible learning and wow events has whizzed by. Every day, my highlight is when I pop into classes and see high-quality teaching and learning in action. This week, Mr Griffiths, Mrs Sem and I have been blown away by the effort and determination we have seen in maths lessons. We have a school full of marvellous mathematicians!
We were very lucky as some of our CHBP Governors visited us to find out more about our exciting science curriculum. Miss McCafferty and I had a brilliant time sharing our science curriculum with them and visiting some science lessons. We were very impressed with how children were working like scientists - well done!
Despite the recent weather, Reception went on a very exciting autumn walk in Brunswick Park where they observed the seasonal changes around them.
As part of their learning on the Ancient Maya, Year 5 took part in a chocolate workshop lead by the Chocolate Museum. They enjoyed learning about the history of chocolate and why it was so important to the Maya. They also loved tasting the chocolate and trying to identify the spices that were traditionally used as flavouring.
Year 6 visited the RAF Museum to deepen their World War Two knowledge and understanding. They took part in an 'Air Raid workshop' and discovered how people stayed safe during Second World War air raids.
Special Recognition
At the end of each half term, Mr Griffiths and Miss Wheeler are selecting one Brunswick Park pupil each who has impressed them with their great attitude and for going above and beyond. These children will be sent a 'Special Recognition Letter.'
A massive congratulations to James (4C) and Jack (6K) for being the first children at Brunswick Park to have received this special award. Well done - we are all incredibly proud of you and thank you for your contributions to life at Brunswick Park.
Just One Tree
Before half term, Brunswick Park children came to school wearing green for Just One Tree Day. We are delighted to announce that we raised a fantastic £260 - that is 260 trees that Brunswick Park children will have planted for them in a rainforest! A huge well done and massive thank you to all those who got involved.

Don't forget it is Odd Socks Day on Monday when children are encouraged to wear odd socks to school: it is a great way to celebrate what makes us all unique!
PTA Message
The PTA would like to thank you for signing up to the estate agent boards. We have hit our target of 100 boards which is the equivalent to £1,500 that CH Peppiatt will donate to the school. This is without any extra donations we have received separately via school money, for those of you who didn't want a board but still kindly donated the £15. Thank you!
The PTA will be pulling out a random winner of the raffle at the Christmas fair who will receive a gift.
Thank you
PTA
Online Safety
We would like to signpost you to the website www.kidsonlineworld.com which provides up to date information about the games, websites and apps that children are currently using. Please take a moment to explore this website - there are some very useful videos and blogs which will help keep you informed about what is available to your children online and tips on how to keep them safe.
Children in Need
As is tradition at Brunswick Park we are celebrating this year’s Children in Need day (17th November) in style.
Not only will it be a non-uniform day but our lovely kitchen ladies are going to bake a yummy Pudsey biscuit that we can decorate in our classrooms.
We are asking for a £1 donation per child. ALL of the money will go directly to the Children in Need Charity. This can be paid on SchoolMoney or by bringing £1.00 to school. In addition to this, we will be holding a cake sale after school. Please bring in nut free donations for this. We will also be selling Pudsey merchandise.
Let’s hope it will be a fantastically fun day raising lots of money for this very important charity.
Christmas Dinner and Jumper Day
On Monday 18th December we will be having our annual Christmas Dinner and Christmas Jumper Day.
If your child usually has a packed lunch but would like a Christmas Dinner on this day, please email the office by the 4th December so that the kitchen can order the food.
Please ensure that you state your child's name and class.
Reading Corner
This month is National Non-Fiction November and is the Federation of Children’s Book Groups’ annual celebration of all things factual.
The theme this year is ‘Wonderful Water’, and they have launched a competition inspired by ‘Sea Change: Save the Ocean’, edited by Tobias Hickey. This is a collection of original postcards and messages from 50 illustrators across the world, working to celebrate and protect the precious life in our oceans.
To win a selection of books, children are invited to create their own postcard. On one side, they should create (paint/ draw/ collage/ print etc) a picture of their favourite watery location and then on the reverse, write about why this place is so important to them.
There are three age group categories:
5-7 (30-40 words)
8-10 (40-60 words)
11-12 (60-100 words)
Each will be judged on their originality, creativity and presentation, according to age.
Please send entries to Sea Change Competition, 123 Frederick Road, Cheam, Sutton, SM1 2HT, or email to nnfn@fcbg.org.uk
Closing date: Monday 4th December 2023
Good luck!
