Welcome back to school! I hope you had a lovely, restful half term break and are ready for autumn 2!
Our Brunswick Park children have made an excellent start to this new half term. It has been a pleasure catching up with many children across the school and hearing what they are looking forward to over the next few weeks.
We have a very exciting and busy half term ahead: we have many interesting learning experiences to look forward to, some year groups will be going on trips and we will all be getting involved with Anti-Bullying Week 2024 and Children In Need. As part of Anti-Bullying Week, on Tuesday 12th November, it is 'Odd Socks Day' where children are encouraged to wear odd socks to school: it is a great way to celebrate what makes us all unique!
This half term, our value is 'courage.' Children will be exploring this value in PSHE lessons, circle time sessions and assemblies. Please talk to your child about what courage means to them.
After School Club Provision
There will be no After School Club provision on the following days:
Friday 6th December
Friday 13th December
Road Safety
As the clocks have gone back, the mornings and evenings are much darker. Please make sure that your children are visible on route to and from school. Please also ensure that children on scooters are properly supervised and do not scoot too far ahead (or too fast) so that road users are able to see them clearly.
We would also strongly suggest that you do not let your children scoot in the Doctor's car park or along the service road.
Anti-Bullying Week 2024 and Odd Socks Day
Next week is Anti-Bullying Week 2024. This week, we welcomed Bigfoot Arts Education into school who ran workshops with Years 1- 6.

It is Odd Socks Day on Tuesday 12th November when children are encouraged to wear odd socks to school with their usual school uniform (or PE kit if it is their PE day). Odd Socks Day is designed to be fun! It’s an opportunity to encourage people to express themselves and celebrate their individuality and what makes us all unique!
Children in Need
Friday 15th November is Children in Need day. The school council have come up with a brilliant idea of holding a Spotacular Bear Pong event. Over the course of the day each year group will have a chance to come to the Bear Pong Arena in the studio. They will take part in house groups and there will be an individual finalist competition at the end of the day. Children may come to school in non- uniform for the day and we will of course be holding a cake sale after school. We are asking for as many donations of cakes as possible as this cake sale is always hugely popular (please remember we are a nut free school).
In order to raise as much money as possible for this wonderful charity, we are asking for a suggested donation (either on SchoolMoney or in cash on the day) of £2 per child. Of course, you can donate more or less, should you wish.
Christmas Lunch and Christmas Jumper Day - 17th December 2024
We will be serving Christmas Dinner on Tuesday 17th December. This will also be Christmas Jumper Day. Please see the menus below - one standard menu and a special diet menu. As usual there will be both halal and non halal turkey. If your child usually has a packed lunch but would like a Christmas dinner please let the office know by. emailing office@brunswickpark.barnetmail.net before Friday 29th November. Due to ordering we cannot accept late requests after this date.
Reception class request
Reception staff are on the lookout for a chest of drawers for the children's spare clothes. If you have a set of drawers that you are looking to part with, please came and speak to a member the Reception teaching staff.
Reading Corner
Magazines can tempt many young readers into reading for pleasure and there are some brilliant ones available for today’s children.
At Brunswick Park we subscribe to two different weekly magazines.
Whizz, Pop, Bang is a science-based magazine. Each issue has a different theme and the pages are packed with relevant articles, experiments, fact files, images and puzzles. It’s eye-catching, uses a variety of page designs and is aligned to the science national curriculum.
The Phoenix explores a range of subject matter, including historical adventures, fantasy tales and nonfiction strips. It is an appealing and enjoyable read that will leave readers looking forward to the next instalment of quality illustrations.
COMPETITION TIME REMINDER!
We have five £5 vouchers to give away as a prize for the Book Fair.
Take a paper plate or a cardboard circle and decorate it in the style of your favourite book or character. On the back please ensure you write your name and class clearly.
Entries to be handed to Miss Jordan by Wednesday 13th November ready for judging before our book fair.
Enjoy being creative and good luck!
