Parent Newsletter number 8 24.10.25
We are now at the end of first half of the autumn term. Its been busy with lots of exciting learning, class trips, sporting events and special assemblies.
Thank you to everyone who supported Spina Bifida Awareness today. The children looked wonderful displaying something yellow.
A huge thank you to Winnie and Ted and their mum Ellie who sorted out all the lost property items on Wednesday.
Another huge thank you to the PTA and all the parent helpers who arranged two wonderfully spooky Halloween Discos. The children loved them.
We would like to wish you all a wonderful half term and we look forward to seeing you on Monday 3rd November.
Reception were lucky enough to have amazing parent visitors come in to share the story of Diwali. It was so interesting to hear the story especially from a Hindu and Sikh perspective. Thank you so much to our lovely parents for bringing the story to life!
Year 4's Roman day took place on Thursday this week where the children came to school dressed as Roman Soldiers, Emperors and several Queen Boudicas and Queen Cartimanduas. The children designed and made a shield too, which can be seen in the photo.
School Council Assembly
We were honoured to have His Worship The Mayor of Barnet (Cllr Danny Rich) come to school on Tuesday to present the new School Council with their badges. It is a fantastic way to celebrate and acknowledge the importance of pupil voice within the school. The children were all very excited to meet him and he was kind enough to then take the time to go around and visit a few classes. He even took the time to make a video for the Year 2 councillors who were out on a trip. Miss Heath is looking forward to getting to work with the new councillors this year.
This half term, we have had a few occasions where we needed to contact a child’s parent or carer urgently and were unable to reach anyone using the details we have on file. In some cases, we also found that the emergency contact numbers provided were out of date.
Please take a moment to ensure that the emergency contact information you have given to school is up to date. It is incredibly important that we are able to reach you — or one of your nominated contacts — quickly in the unlikely event of an emergency.
If your contact details have changed recently, please let the school office know as soon as possible.
School gates
After the half-term break, the morning gates will be opening as usual at 8.40am, but will now shut promptly at 8.55am to ensure that we get the school day started as efficiently as possible. Please ensure children arrive at school on time so they are ready to begin their learning.

Chatter Matters
IT’S GOOD TO TALK!
Walk and Talk . . .
Look, Listen & Chat . . .
The conversations you have with your child can make a difference to their future.
The first five years of a child’s life have a big impact.
The development that happens helps improve their future learning, happiness and wellbeing.
You can help this development by finding opportunities to talk and listen to them as often as you can and introduce them to new things.
Whilst going for a walk with your child over the half term break simply talk about . . . .
· things that are living
· things that move
· things that you can hear or smell
· the weather
· letters and numbers
· different ways you can move
· patterns, textures and more.
Use your senses, play I Spy, notice the small things, move in different ways, sing a song, make up a story or song . . .
Follow your child’s lead.
Talk about the things they are doing and have noticed.
Did you know?
When you copy what your child says, it shows them you are listening.
Adding an extra word or two teaches them new words, and how to say longer sentences.
Whenever you can, include looking, listening and chatting during your day.
It will help your child’s speech and communication skills.
Reading Corner
Year 1 - Year 6 had a fabulous time with our visiting author Mark Stratton and his children - Jack and Amelie.
Everyone listened to their stories attentively and it was lovely hearing the laughter amongst the crowd at appropriate moments, which demonstrated their enjoyment.
All the children were impresses to hear that Jack and Amelie wrote their stories at such a young age.
Fantastic questions were asked about their writing journey and future plans.
Thank you to everyone who purchased a signed copy of one of their books.
Here are a few photos:
