Parent Newsletter number 6 10.10.25
We have had another busy week at Brunswick Park.
Today we dressed in yellow for World Mental Health Day. We also have a few charity events coming up. Please see the information below.
It is a busy week next week with flu vaccinations and individual pupil photographs. If your child has a sibling that does not attend Brunswick Park, you are welcome to come along before school, from 8am, to have a photo taken of the children together.
We also look forward to welcoming you to the parent consultations on Wednesday 15th October and Thursday 16th October.
Year 3 have had a fabulous, fun-filled week.
They enjoyed the glorious, autumn sunshine down in the park on Monday with their monsters.
The monsters got up to all sorts of mischief, which we are looking forward to reading about in their upcoming diaries.
Year 3 then learnt all about the layers of soil, whilst making an edible soil pudding.
We hope they were delicious.
Here are some quotes from Year 3:
'We used oreo cookies for the bed rock, which is hard solid rock.'
'Top soil is the first layer. It is very nutritious and helps plants to grow.'
'Sub soil is tightly packed and has less nutrients.'
'We used chocolate chip for the rocky soil. This layer can also be called Parent Material or Weathered Rock.'
'I had fun learning about the layers of soil.'
'We used icing for organic matter and strawberry laces as the worms. These are decomposers.'
JUST ONE Tree - Friday 17th October - Wear something green
JUST ONE Tree supports reforestation projects in areas severely affected by deforestation such as Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique and Brazil. In doing so they have the greatest positive effect on limiting global warming whilst simultaneously alleviating extreme poverty within local communities through the provision of training, agricultural education and sustainable incomes.
JUST ONE Tree makes it simple for everyone to take collective action on the climate crisis because Just £1 plants 1 Tree.
We’re sure you will agree that tree planting is absolutely essential at this critical time for the planet. We will therefore be joining children, parents and teachers around the world on this day to demonstrate that an individual's actions can have a positive impact on the environment.
Please bring your suggested donation of £1 to school (and wear green) on 17th October 2025 or log on to SchoolMoney Shop to donate.
More information can be found at: https://www.justonetree.life/
We look forward to counting the number of trees that our school community can plant!
Go Yellow for Shine
Please see the poster below. On Friday 24th October we will be wearing yellow in support of spina bifida. A voluntary contribution of £1.00 will be on SchoolMoney shop. We hope you will join us in helping raise funds for this charity.
New lunch menu
After the October half term there will be a new school dinner menu. Please see below:
READING CORNER
Thank you to everyone who pre-ordered a signed copy of one of Mark Stratton’s books.
We are looking forward to our event on Thursday 23rd October.
Being a Reading Ambassador is a very important role. We were overwhelmed with the responses on the pupil’s applications for this role, so we have decided to introduce a larger team this year.
We welcome Leyla, Martha, Christiano, Finn, Jack, Ryan, Alice, Grace, Edward, Maisie, Isla, Ahmet, Adam, Ivy, Henry and Layla to our dedicated reading team.
We know that all the above pupils are looking forward to their new responsibility and sharing their passion of reading with others across Brunswick Park.
Brunswick Park Book Club for Year 1, 2 and 3 will commence on Thursday 16th October.
Details below.
ORACY WEEK
Chatter Matters
IT’S GOOD TO TALK!
Good idea / bad idea? is an effective talk structure.
Present an idea and ask your child if they think it is a good idea or a bad idea and their reasons.
If appropriate, why not respectfully challenge their thoughts.
This game promotes critical and creative thinking and allows pupils to see other’s perspectives.
Use it for a fun quick game to develop learning through talk.
Having dessert for every meal . . . good idea / bad idea?
Trips to space . . . good idea / bad idea?
Homework every day . . . good idea / bad idea?
