Parent Newsletter number 5 4.10.24
Year 1 recently went on a trip to Barnet Museum. This was linked to their current topic in history - 'Toys Old and New'. They all had a great time exploring toys from the past and even had time to investigate local historic items found amongst our Barnet community. All the children were amazing Brunswick Park role models, demonstrating the values of friendship, kindness and respect whilst traveling by bus, being mindful of other passengers and looking after each other. It was a great morning and thank you to the parent helpers.
School Council
Brunswick Park were honoured this week with a very special visit from His Worship The Mayor of Barnet to welcome in the newly elected School Council. It was a wonderful assembly and the children listened intently as The Mayor explained his role and how he had a vested interest in our school, having been our local councillor for a number of years with Brunswick Park being his ward.
A truly splendid way to welcome and congratulate the new School Council.
Safety first.
Please ensure that children walk down the ramp sensibly (towards Nursery) at the end of the day. We have noticed that a few children are running around the steep grass verge and jumping over the railings on the ramp wall. We would not want any accidents to occur. Please keep safe!
Polite reminder
In our first newsletter of this academic year, we pointed out new signage around the front gates in the school. These signs ask parents/visitors not to let anyone into the school grounds. All visitors must be permitted entry by a member of staff. This is to ensure the safety of our school community. This week we have witnessed a few parents actively opening the front gate for other parents and we must ask you not to do so. Thank you for your cooperation.
Forgotten items
We know that life is busy and quite often children leave things at home in the morning. However, unfortunately the number of forgotten items (ie PE kits, water bottles etc) that are being handed into the office on a daily basis is increasing. So much so that we cannot guarantee that the items will be delivered to your child. Please try to remember all items in the morning prior to leaving for school.
Reading corner
This week in assembly we celebrated National Poetry Day, which is the biggest mass celebration of poetry in the UK. National Poetry Day is a celebration that encourages everyone to make, experience and share poetry with family and friends. Here are a few recommendations found on BooksforTopics.
World Mental Health Day 2024 reminder
Brunswick Park will be joining thousands of schools across the UK and taking part in Hello Yellow in support of YoungMinds on Thursday 10th October (World Mental Health Day) where we’ll be holding a non-school uniform day and asking everyone to wear something yellow. There are days when all of us struggle with how we are feeling. Things can get tough, and it can be difficult knowing how to cope. For so many young people, when this happens, they don’t always get the help they need, when they need it. They don’t know where to turn, who to talk to, or even if anyone else feels the same. No young person should feel alone with their mental health. But together, we can change this. To take part, students can wear yellow to school: because we stand brighter, together. YoungMinds have resources for parents and carers to find help and advice, if you’re ever concerned about a child or young person – you can find this on their website: www.youngminds.org.uk/parent.

Free Child Car Seat Safety Checks
95% of child car seats checked in Barnet during August/September were incorrectly fitted!
Barnet Council is offering free car seat checks across Barnet to help identify and avoid common errors, in partnership with Good Egg Safety. Recent car seat safety checks in Barnet have revealed that 95% of child car seats were installed incorrectly after 45 seats were checked, with a total of 100 errors.
Unfortunately, errors on seats are very easily made, but the great news is that they tend to be easy to fix.
The last two events are taking place on:
Tuesday 8 October, from 10am to 3pm at Sainsburys, Unit 4 Hyde Estate Rd, London (NW9 6JX)
Thursday, 10 October 2024, from 10am to 3pm at Sainsbury’s Broadwalk Shopping Centre, Station Road, Edgware (HA8 7BQ)
Bring your family and have your car seats checked by an expert advisor, who will correct any fixable fitting errors and provide guidance on how to install the car seat properly. No appointment needed.
