Parent Newsletter number 37 11.07.25
Earlier this week, I was very fortunate as I had the opportunity to teach 2R. We had a brilliant time learning about different types of poems and their features. We read a variety of poems; we all thoroughly enjoyed 'Saw my Teacher on a Saturday' and 'On the Ning Nang Nong.'
On Thursday, I had the pleasure of joining 3A when they made fruit crumble. The crumble tasted absolutely delicious and many children commented that they look forward to making it again at home!
Next week, there a number of events to look forward to - please check the dates for the diary section of this newsletter.
I look forward to seeing you in the playground or at one of the many events on the run-up to the summer holiday.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Rescheduled Sports Day
Don't forget EYFS, KS1 and Year 6 Sports days will take place on Tuesday 15th July.
Please see the diary dates below for timings.
Parents should wait outside the school gates while the children warm up. Parents can then join them in the park.
Last week, we had our Summer Party and it was a brilliant evening! It was wonderful to catch up with so many of you and see everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves.
I would like to thank everyone who attended the event, and the staff and volunteers who helped on the day. A big thank you to our PTA - without them, the Summer Party would not have happened.
This week, we hosted our first ever '£5 Challenge!' The playground came alive with each class setting up their own stall in order to make as much profit as possible after starting out with just £5. From beautiful bead bracelets to chilled lemonade, each class went above and beyond to raise as much money as they could. I was blown away by everyone's determination, enthusiasm and creativity. Well done everyone!
The £5 Challenge event was a fantastic success! With just an initial investment of £5 and the incredible support of our Brunswick families, the children managed to make brilliant profits through creativity, teamwork, and lots of enthusiasm. Each class worked hard to plan and run their stalls, showing great entrepreneurial spirit and collaboration. The atmosphere was filled with community joy, and the stalls looked amazing—thanks to the effort of both teachers and pupils. A huge thank you to everyone who supported the event! We’re excited to see how each class chooses to spend their profits. A special well done to 4M, who made a very sizeable profit—an impressive £158—with their refreshing cold lemonades, which were a perfect hit in the sunshine!
Last Friday, 3JB harvested their crops from their mini garden outside their classroom.
We are incredibly proud of their yield of potatoes, lettuce and radish.
The class worked very hard planting their crops, tending to the crop and then harvesting.
Are present, we have marigolds growing along with cosmos.
We are hoping to see some tomatoes starting to grow before the summer holidays.
Our master chefs in Year 3 enjoyed cooking their Apple Fruit Crumble this week.
Once again we had empty bowls and their peeling and cutting skills were perfected.
Great work Year 3!
Next week
There are no morning interventions next week and no activity clubs. After school club runs as normal on Monday to Thursday. Breakfast club runs every morning.

Reading Corner
On Monday we had a visit from Osidge Library to introduce this year’s Barnet Reading Challenge, which our Brunswick Reading Ambassadors helped to design in the early stages by sharing their ideas.
Sign up for Barnet Book Detectives at the library during staffed hours from Saturday 5 July, and receive a book journal packed with activities.
In their Book Detectives Journal, children can log their summer reading journey, write reviews, follow a mystery trail, solve a code buster, and much more. There is also an exciting prize draw.
Mystery-themed activities for children are taking place in all Barnet libraries over the summer, including an RAF Museum event and an opportunity to ‘Solve a WW2 Mystery’ with author Helen Peters.
To find out more, pick up a Creative Communities programme from the library, or check events online.
Barnet Library Services would like to thank our Reading Ambassadors for their contributions towards the planning and delivering of the challenge and for the enthusiasm the school demonstrated towards books and reading in the assembly.
Please see the new books you will find in our school library from September. All books are stamped, stickered and on our library system ready for you to read.
Thank you to everyone who attended our book fairs this year, which made this purchase possible.
This will be our last Reading Corner for this academic year. Hope you have enjoyed all of our book recommendations, reading advice, book competitions and the sharing of reading events at Brunswick Park.
We would like to personally thank all our Reading Ambassadors. Today they all received a certificate in recognition for their enthusiasm for reading and their commitment to inspiring others to enjoy books.
Their love of stories and encouragement has made them brilliant role models for others to aspire too. We are extremely grateful for the hours they have put into this role. Thank you!

Chatter Matters
IT’S GOOD TO TALK!
Oracy, the ability to communicate effectively through speaking and listening, can be fostered during the summer holidays through engaging activities and discussions.
1. Everyday Conversations and Storytelling:
Engage in regular conversations: talk about their day, their interests, and their experiences.
Ask open-ended questions: ask questions that require them to explain their thoughts and feelings.
Storytelling: encourage children to tell stories, and ask them to elaborate on the details and characters.
Family discussions: about current events, books, or movies, encouraging children to share their opinions and perspectives.
2. Creative Activities and Play:
Role-playing and imaginative play: create scenarios and act out different roles, to develop their characters and stories.
Outdoor activities: playing in nature, building dens, or participating in scavenger hunts can provide opportunities for collaborative problem-solving and communication.
3. Structured Activities:
Debates and discussions: engage in age-appropriate debates on topics they find interesting, encouraging them to research and present their arguments.
Creative writing and performance: write stories or scripts and then act them out, developing their communication skills through both writing and performance.
Reading aloud and discussing books: engage in discussions about the characters and plot can enhance their vocabulary and comprehension skills.
4. Making it Fun and Engaging:
Connect oracy to children's interests: align with their hobbies and passions to make learning more enjoyable.
Make it playful and interactive: turn oracy practice into a game or a fun activity, rather than a chore.
By incorporating these strategies, you can help your child/children develop and strengthen their oracy skills during the summer holidays, setting them up for success in the new school year and beyond.
“Would you rather” questions are a fun and engaging way to encourage critical thinking and imagination. This week’s questions for discussion are . . .
Swim in the ocean or swim in a pool?
Spend a day at the park or spend the day at the beach?
Go on a road trip or go on a cruise?
Go on a picnic or eat at a restaurant?
Walk barefoot on the sand or barefoot on the grass?
Eat watermelon or eat strawberries?
