Parent Newsletter number 3 20.9.24
We have had another brilliant week at Brunswick Park. Each classroom has a real buzz of excitement and zest for learning. I have thoroughly enjoyed spending time in classes and seeing children across the school enjoying everything from place value in maths to cricket in PE!
A big warm welcome to our new Nursery children and families. The children are adjusting to Nursery life and settling in very well - we are very proud of them.
Please don't forget that we are hosting the Macmillan Coffee Morning next Friday at morning drop off - I hope you can make it!
I wish you all a brilliant weekend.
YoungMinds - World Mental Health Day 2024
Brunswick Park will be joining thousands of schools across the UK and taking part in Hello Yellow in support of YoungMinds on Thursday 10th October (World Mental Health Day) where we’ll be holding a non-school uniform day and asking everyone to wear something yellow. There are days when all of us struggle with how we are feeling. Things can get tough, and it can be difficult knowing how to cope. For so many young people, when this happens, they don’t always get the help they need, when they need it. They don’t know where to turn, who to talk to, or even if anyone else feels the same. No young person should feel alone with their mental health. But together, we can change this. To take part, students can wear yellow to school: because we stand brighter, together. YoungMinds have resources for parents and carers to find help and advice, if you’re ever concerned about a child or young person – you can find this on their website: www.youngminds.org.uk/parent.
Year 5
Year 5 took part in an interactive science show demonstrating Newton's laws of motion. They gained an insight into the chemistry of various explosives and propellants historically produced at the site. Finally, they made and launched their own air-powered rockets! They discovered many facts including that TNT turns things yellow and that gunpowder was used during the Great Fire of London to destroy the houses to make space preventing the fire from spreading.
Year 5 also devised their own fair tests, gathered data and reported findings. They all had a great time!
Reading corner
Our aim is for pupils to leave Brunswick Park as fluent, confident readers who understand the importance of reading on their immediate and future lives. We intend for them to leave, having read a rich variety of fiction and non-fiction literature. Our intention is that all pupils develop such enjoyment for reading that they leave as avid readers choosing to read for pleasure and to read to learn. We know that reading is a key skill for life.
Help your child on this journey by encouraging them to read every day for approximately 15 minutes.
Reminder- British Food Menu
The kitchen will be serving a slightly altered menu on Wednesday 25th September to celebrate British Food Fortnight.
