Parent Newsletter number 3 19.09.25
We have had another brilliant week at Brunswick Park.
The Nursery children are all enrolled and settled in. Well done to them all.
Reception have completed their first full week and are now in the full throws of school life.
Each class has had their Meet the Teacher session. We hope you found them useful.
Snacks
As part of our commitment to the Healthy Schools initiative, we request that all children bring fruit or vegetables only for their breaktime snacks.
This helps us: promote healthy eating habits, support children’s concentration and energy levels throughout the day and reduce sugary and processed foods in school.
Please ensure your child’s snack is a piece of fresh fruit or chopped vegetables (e.g., apple slices, carrot sticks or cucumber). Thank you for helping us create a healthier school environment for all our children!
After School Club
Starting 29th September, there will be changes to the procedure for collecting children from our After School Club. These updates are being introduced to ensure we meet the latest Health & Safety, fire warden and safeguarding guidance. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep all children safe. Full details of the new arrangements will be shared with you in a letter next week.
Dogs
Please may we remind you that dogs are not permitted in the school even if they are being carried. Neither should they be tied up to any fencing/railings inside or outside the grounds.
Year 3 this week
Year 3 attended another virtual workshop this week with UCL - Geobus.
Once again, Doctor Amy was impressed with their wealth of knowledge on the three rock types - sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic.
Below are some facts that the pupils have learnt:
"Igneous rock comes from cooled lava."
"Limestone turns into marble when it is re-heated making it a metamorphic rock."
"When lava cools fast it turns into shiny obsidian, but if the lava cools slowly it will turn to granite."
"Pumice is another igneous rock which comes in different shades of grey. The holes are created when gases escape the cooling lava."
"Fossils can only be found in sedimentary rock."
"Limestone, sandstone and chalk are all sedimentary rocks."
"Sedimentary rocks are created by chips of rock forming layers, and under pressure glue together."

Reading Corner
Our aim is for pupils to leave Brunswick Park as fluent, confident readers who understand the importance of reading on their immediate and future lives.
We intend for them to leave, having read a rich variety of fiction and non-fiction literature.
Our intention is that all pupils develop such enjoyment for reading that they leave as avid readers choosing to read for pleasure and to read to learn. We know that reading is a key skill for life.
Help your child on this journey by encouraging them to read every day for approximately 15 minutes.
Expectations on reading in Reception and Year 1 have now been sent home.
If any pupils in Year 3 – Year 6 have issues with our Junior Librarian library system, please encourage them to speak to Miss Jordan, who will endeavour to solve the problem.
Reception Parents Phonics Meeting
We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday at 9am.
ORACY WEEK
Chatter Matters
IT’S GOOD TO TALK!
This weekend turn the television off and play a game. This can be as simple as playing different board games and getting your child to explain the rules.
Why not also talk through their strategies and the choices they a have made?
Alternatively, here are some more ‘What if’s’ to explore . . . .
What if . . . Snow White made friends with seven giants?
What if . . . all cats secretly know kung fu?
What if . . . video games were never invented?
