News from the Park

Parent Newsletter 27 26.4.2024

This week, kindness has flooded the school - our value this half term. Acts of kindness have been seen in the playground and in classrooms, and kindness shone as the theme in this week's celebration assemblies.

Thank you to those of you who attended the school dinner taster event led by our school dinners provider. I would like to say a big thank you to the wonderful Year 6 helpers who gave our guests an incredibly warm Brunswick Park welcome.

We had lots of fun taking part in today's belated April Fool's PTA event!

North London Hospice

We wanted to remind you that we are taking part in an exciting fundraising project to support North London Hospice. The charity has been caring for local people since 1984 and is committed to empowering patients with life-limiting illnesses, supporting them to achieve the best quality of life possible. They welcome people from all faiths and communities within the boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey and provide physical, emotional and spiritual care to patients and families, friends and carers. All their services are provided free of charge but they only receive about a quarter of the funding needed from the government and rely on donations to cover the rest.

Their Big Fun Art Adventure – a first for north London – is a unique project that brings together businesses (through sponsorship), schools and community groups, artists and the general public in support of the hospice to celebrate creativity and community. There will be a trail of at least 30 huge, uniquely painted owl sculptures that will be displayed from mid-August for eight weeks before they are auctioned to raise much needed funds to support the hospice.

On the trail, alongside the 6ft owls, will be a similar number of owlets (identical in shape to the large owls but half their size) decorated by schools and community groups. We are adopting one of these and can’t wait to have fun designing and decorating it, and then seeing it out on the trail in the summer. After the public trail, our owlet will be returned to us to keep as a lasting legacy of our support.

It promises to be a hoot! The trail will be a great way to discover the local area in a unique way by spotting owls on local streets, parks and venues. The perfect free day out that will raise awareness and funds for a local cause! To find out more about the trail and North London Hospice have a look at the dedicated website: http://www.bigfunartadventure.org and follow their social media accounts for all the latest news.

Brunswick Park Primary and Nursery School is incredibly excited to be part of the brilliant Big Fun Art Adventure this term. We can't wait to design and decorate our owlet when it arrives! We are looking forward to working alongside our local community to support North London Hospice. We are proud to be raising vital funds for this wonderful charity so that they can continue doing the amazing work they do, helping them make a difference to those who need them.

Year 1

This week Year 1 went for a nature walk in Brunswick Park as part of their science learning on growing this term. They went with a checklist and a Tally chart in order to identify some evergreen and deciduous trees. They documented the most commonly found plants and trees in our immediate local area. They had lots of fun and discovered that the most common type of tree in our park is the hornbeam tree.

Reading Corner

Cook for Books

Well done to Reception for raising over £190 in their cake sale last week!

Overall, with your help we have raised over £1,000 to buy books to go directly into your children’s classrooms.  Thank you to everyone who has supported our cakes sales, they will make such a difference to our class libraries.

Year 1 deserve a special mention, as they raised the most money during their cake sale.

Reading Assemblies

On Monday, the Year 6 librarians led the assembly reading the Yoto Carnegie nominated book ‘The Wilderness’.  Well done to Antonia, Katy, Kristina and Waliyya for showing such courage and determination to get over their nerves to perform the book beautifully during both assemblies
